Intel I7.... but which one? XD

Hello everyone

Im going to move from AMD to Intel because a 3 monitor set-up with a PCI HDD, two 580's and all in 3d, im pritty sure would work a tad better with intel SO, with that in mind, im completely new to intel 😛
I immagine it all works the same way, the more you spend the better it is but, Intel Core i7 3820, S 2011 is out there for around £240, but then there's a massive jump in price to the Intel Core i7 3930K.
The main question is why? 😛
And what's with the Extreme edition? Thats another £350 on top of that. Its maaaaad XD

The main reason im wanting to get the newer s 2011 is because it's futureproof forrrr a long time.

Hi

Some of the machines we build are for 6 monitors (3 graphics cards)...and we use AMD perfectly happily....in the UK.

The customer wouldnt pay the massive premium for Intel...

A tip for you though...ULTRAMON is VERY good software for multiple screens...

The new Sandy Bridge - E CPUs are incorrectly advertised. The 2500K will do fine for gaming and will perform mostly the same as the 2600K, 3xxx. The only reason why you would go with the i7s are for video editing and stuff like that.

The 2500K is just as future proof as any i7 for gaming.

But if you still want to go the i7 way, you might as well get a 3930K if you have that much money. The 3930K and the 3960x will perform identical once the 3930K is OCed.
The reason why the 39xx are priced higher than the 3820 is because they can OC and the 3820 can't.

So after those being said, what does Intel really have over AMD?
Every where i look they are proved faster, even an i5 beats the 1060t at times, and the bulldozer was a fair let down when i came out so if i chose amd again then i'll hang untill the 2nd generation of it which should be out sometimes in Q2-3

So what is your budget for your intel move ? And do you need to move right now or can you wait 1 month ?

no i can hang, as for budget, i have around £7-800 for CPU and mobo.
Everything else i have, PCI-SSD, the ram, a gtx580 and a watercooled rig.
If i go with bulldozer then i can afford a second 580 as i have the motherboard for it already, but that'll be a hang untill it's released (The 2nd gen.)

Well im a big AMD fan, but with all my love for them i can not reccommend you go with them, i would hang on until Ivy bridge and base your upgrade on it hopefully with a new chipset mobo that will fully utilize all that the new Ivy bridge has to offer,

I also would not buy a 2nd GTX580, instead wait for Nvidias new 600 series cards which if the rumours are true look to be a big improvement over the 500 series and will probably be released to coincide with Ivy Bridges release.

I would love to hang for the 600's BUT, taking into consideration when the 590's came out, the prices were retarded, i immagine 2 580's will give the 600's a run for their money. And if not, 2 580 will last atleast a year, save a little a month and when they struggle, get the best of the time then.
I personally love AMD, cheep, relaible, just what you need but looking at all the comparrisons, tests reviews ect, the i5 beats it in many ways which is really annoying. I might actually wait for the second generation of bulldozers to come out and compare them then, see what they manage to roll out. Something really good i hope.

The next "CPU" AMD will be releasing will be an APU. They are improving the graphics instead of the CPU so Piledriver will have a 10 to 15% increase from bulldozer which isn't enough to even compete with current Sandy Bridges. They are targeted toward HTPCs and very low budget gamers so that they won't have to get a GPU for playing games/ movies.
Somewhere last year, AMD said that they quit the "AMD vs Intel" battle from the main CPU market and are focusing on mobile stuff now.
Very sad thing but AMD can't get their act together.

I'd suggest just getting the i5 2500k unless you do video editing or rendering, then the i7 3930x or 2600k are decent for their respected prices.

Well piledriver is the last cpu they are launching. Basically they are moving over to mobile stuff and all of you amd users will have no where to go

well, they have a second gen and third gen of the bulldozer CPU's up for release over the next year or so, think im going to grab the bulldozer second gen due to be released in the next few month on, disable 4 cores and over clock it as a quad (Most games today dont use more than 3 if not 4). Cheepest option which allows me to get more items for water cooling i.e. blocks and connectors 😀
