The big news here is the i7-970. In highly threaded tasks Intel's 6-core LGA1366 processors are still unmatched, and yes that's taking the i7-2600K into account. A 6-core i7 can now be bought for just under $600, although I still have my doubts as to whether or not it's actually worth that price, but regardless this price drop is a huge step in the right direction. It would have to drop another price point to around $300 for me to consider an upgrade.
I know of many who have speculated that the MSRP of the i7-970 would never drop to the $500-$600 price point, even after the introduction of the i7-990X. Here's hoping that the situation with the i7-970 is similar to that of the Q6600. An affordable high performance 6-core processor may be just around the corner.
