Great, and Sandy Bridge is coming back....when?

Is it just me or are they trying to capitalize on absence of SB? Doesn't $250 SB > $1000 I7?

Hmmm... the i7-970 suddenly looks far more attractive. I may consider replacing my i7-920 with one come pay day depending on how these price drops translate to UK prices.

FFS, what a bunch of whiners on this site. Maybe the goal is to offer upgrades to people who've already got LGA1156/LGA1366 boards? I'd wager that half you fucks would be whinging about "OMG INTEL IS MAKING ME BUY A NEW MOBO" if they were solely pushing SB.

This is simply Intel trying to sell off all there old stock and that's it. This is no different then if you went into a supermarket and they have certain brand of yogurt or something really cheap. They want to sell off as much as they can before they take a loss. I mean seriously do you think that the 990x is any different then the 980x I doubt it. Change some speeds around and push a lower price to sell off stuff that will be going out of date soon.

Now I am not saying any of these chips are bad or are crap its simply sell the back stock off to make room for new product it is simple economics.

Put that in your pipe AMD, and smoke it!

And that's from a AMD guy. Or maybe a future AMD guy, depending on bulldozer..

I want a CPU that can read my thoughts and translate them to commands on my screen. Until then, I will be happy with my TriCore AMD for quite some more time.

Only Tri-Core are you noob ? But yeah a 999$ priced CPU and sandy one at 300$ overclocked to 5ghz beat the f*** out of it. If only AMD could have some competition on that side price should drop but otherwise AMD is way back behind. Even bulldozer will never beat sandy i2600k at 5ghz EVER. IF it does i give 1 million dollar to everyone here.

They increase the price of sandy bridge at microcenter today. Before the i7 2600k was $279.99 now it's $299.99 same with the i5 2500k it was $179.99 at now it's $199.99 at microcenter. Still cheaper though versus the others like newegg. Glad to see they dropped the prices though on the 6 core i7 970 $583 i guess ain't to bad for a i7 6core lol still a bit expensive for me though. I'll rather buy the i5 2500k for 200bucks and call it a day.

Comeon Intel. Give us some better 1336 processors... we have already seen what Sandy Bridge can do so were expecting more since this is suppose to be your "enthusiast" socket.

Some people just want to save cash when they can, if the OP's happy with a tri-core why criticize? I'm stuck with an ols Q6700 cuz I don't have the cash right now to upgrade to something better.

I'll lawl so hard at srgess when BD comes out. I expect similar performance, and if the AMD charts are correct (as they were for the 68xx/69xx series) then the Zambezi = i7. Unsure 1st or 2nd gen but either way, should be similar performance.

The big news here is the i7-970. In highly threaded tasks Intel's 6-core LGA1366 processors are still unmatched, and yes that's taking the i7-2600K into account. A 6-core i7 can now be bought for just under $600, although I still have my doubts as to whether or not it's actually worth that price, but regardless this price drop is a huge step in the right direction. It would have to drop another price point to around $300 for me to consider an upgrade.

I know of many who have speculated that the MSRP of the i7-970 would never drop to the $500-$600 price point, even after the introduction of the i7-990X. Here's hoping that the situation with the i7-970 is similar to that of the Q6600. An affordable high performance 6-core processor may be just around the corner.

I wouldn't build on LGA 1366 unless you need 3+ GPUs, LGA 1156 is great for most users and the i5 760 will overclock to match the performance of the 990x (990x @ stock)
