Hello All,
I've read many Optane threads here, but I wanted to ask about this specific situation to see what my best options were.
I recently bought an ASROCK z390 TaiChi ultimate with an installed i7 9700k. The person who was starting to build this system but 2 32GB Optanes in and (by his own words) spent 6 hours to Raid 0 these Optanes. He says he used them for his OS.

I'm about to get this in the next couple of days and my question is, is this a good setup? From what I've read, you can use the Optane as an SSD storage so I would think it's possible to set it to install the OS and boot the OS from the Optanes, but I'm not sure how these Optanes would perform in Raid 0 to boot the OS. I wouldn't think this is a good idea. My thoughts are that it would either be better to just get an SSD to boot from or to pair one of the optanes to an hdd.

Thoughts? I'm going to be using this primarily for gaming. All I really care about is booting games. Thanks for the help!

Solution
Get yourself a standard SSD (Either SATA on a budget, or NVME if you have the cash) and avoid whatever dumpster fire the previous owner was trying to assemble.
Thanks. I figured this was the answer. The guy seemed lnowledgeable, but his use of the Raid 0 Optane just confused me. I hate to waste two Optanes...maybe i should just sell them to pay for my SSD.

The person who did this is dumb and spent too much time and money on buzzword products he didn't understand. 64gb is not enough for your OS to be comfortable on, with other stuff you'd want on your boot drive. You could use the Optane drives as a cache for a normal SSD, or you can just get rid of them and get a normal SSD. In terms of real life use you'd never notice the difference.

If I can get decent money for each one ill sell them, but im also entertaining accelerating an SSD with each. Im guessing i cant raid and link them to a single SSD. I probably have to link each to a separate SSD.
