Good evening guys, happy news!Coffee lake is available in my country!Well...im so confused right now. I made tons of research and decided to go with ryzen 1600(non x because of strict budget) then suddenly intel comes out and BOOM! I have to ask from your help(again) and your valuable knowledge regarding cpus because im clueless. So to begin with,im gaming at 1080p with an rx 480 4gb,which begs the question;which cpu will suit me best?

i5 8400 or ryzen 1600?

Or should I wait for i5 8500 to release? Also I dont do photoshop neither video editing(at least for the time being) My main concern though is futureproofing.Whatever cpu I buy,I wanna know which one is going to last for 2-3 years for demanding 1080p gaming(next year gonna invest to a better gpu as well ,but this time even more powerful,but...as far as cpu market goes,I dont want to change every year)
Thanks for reading and for your time!

What's your choice? What's better in terms of gaming performance?Personally I

Solution
Remember that Intel are only offering you bang for buck because of amd .

& only the 8400 is honestly 'that' reasonably priced.

That said it's a good CPU no doubt but the fact is on a 1080p screen paired with a 480 you won't honestly see a blind bit of difference between them at all.
1. Nothing is future proof
2. 8400 has better single core, while Ryzen has doubled threads. Most current games are still mostly single core, but some games like overwatch is benefiting from Ryzen's hyper-threading. In those games you may see on par or even Ryzen wins in some. Both are good choices and it is up to your judgement whether games will be adapted sooner to hyper-threading or Intel will always develop faster/single chips than AMD. Last thing is Ryzen is pretty new for AM4 socket while coffee lake not so much.

For 2-3 years 1080p gaming, 8400 should serve you better at least for now and you can upgrade to 8700k once the price dropped and ice lake pops up :)

I guess if you are going just for gaming, Intel is the answer.

But got to say that I'm personally using Ryzen 1600, and mainly just because I'll probably need a CPU for multitask intensive software after about half a year or so

And just noticed but the variant you are comparing is definitely something that Intel has put out to challenge 1600

- 1600 came 6 months ago and i5 8400 on the other hand came a month ago and is about 8-12% better for gaming compared to 1600
- both are in the exact same price range

So I'd suggest to take Intel if you want to take the bait; it is superb for gaming and has most likely better support considering how new of a product the opposite is. I bought Ryzen mainly just because;

1. I wouldn't like Intel being the super overlord market share winner forever

2. I want to give Amd credit for actually challenging CPU technology/market

3. The reason I gave in the start

3. Ryzen sounds and looks cool... and I have always liked Amd's logo better than Intel's...

While I cant deny those facts,i Have spent all of my money to buy one plus 5 and now im not looking to support a good and humble company but the one which offers "best bang for your back" Hope you understand ^^

Then it shall be Intel

Good choice.

strangely as it sounds, here at my country asus b250 for intel chipsets costs 20 bucks less than asus prime b350+ (for amd)

OH? I didnt know that 🙁 well... guess i have to wait ofr h370 to come out...

This. And with BF/holiday sales coming up, Intel might be really shooting themselves in the foot by not having their stuff ready to go. The 8400 is good, but not good enough to warrant waiting in my book. If you see the parts on sale over the next few weeks, there is no shame in getting a Ryzen setup right now.

For 24 hours the ryzen 1600 was available for £136 in the uk.
I thought it was a price mismatch but ordered 4 & ive had despatch confirmation now so I am literally quids in.

I could sell these tomorrow for £150 each when they arrive & make £60 for doing nothing at all.
They'll go in builds for xmas though even though I generally dont build anymore for money there are alwys a few local enquiries this tme of year.

Back upto £189 now but when paired with an asus board you get 2 free games (new AAA titles too) so still very good value.

https://promotion.asus.com/en/uk/Ryzen

Anyone considering ryzen over november should enquire about this if its not listed on retail sites.

Because thats £100 worth of games completely free whether they interest you or not.

I cannot work out if this is just for the uk or not.

Exactly. I'm a bit surprised Intel hasn't done more to get bundles and a better choice of boards. If you can wait or afford the more expensive boards that's great. But if you want to save some money over the next few months it makes a lot of sense to build an AMD machine. Local markets might change things, and perhaps Intel will find a way to make some deals. (7700 with a great board might be super cheap and the 7700 is still no slouch.) But AMD looks to have done a good job for the holiday season.
