ok first of my current specs:

Cpu: AMD FX-4170 quad core stock at 4.2gHz
Cpu cooler: Zalman 9900 max
motherboard: asus cross-hair formula v
RAM: gskill 16Gb (2x8Gb)
Graphics Card: sapphire 7950 with aftermarket arctic cooler
Sound card: creative sound blaster z
Hard drive 1: 250Gb WD velociraptor
Hard drive 2: 1Tb WD black drive
Power Supply: rosewill lightning-1000w
also running 3 monitor setup

I have only ever run AMD cpu's and asus motherboards, so i know very little about intel and other motherboard manufactures. lately i hav found my pc lacking in performance i am running a clean windows install and it runs ok doing minor shit music internet minor games. it starts to stress out when im playing bf4, or wow and runing a few more applications. it runs fine i just feel like it should be batter and i had thought about getting the new asus crosshair formula v-z motherboard and getting an fx-8350 but i would like to set my next build up where i wont have to change motherboards for a while and i can just pop in a new processor or ram etc.... so i started looking at intel im not sure if i should roll with the 2011 socket or the 1050 i like the performance ive seen from the haswells and they seem to be cheaper and they have a wider range of good motherboards, but im nosure then if i should get an i5 or i7. I should include i plan on overclocking slightly and i also want to get into live streaming games and video recording.

I will link a few things that i have been considering any input would be greatly appreciated.

build one:

Graphics Card: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121779

Build Two:
Cpu: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819116901
Cpu Cooler: Same as above or considering closed loop water cooler
Motherboard: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130692

Again any input on anything even things i didn't put down that im replacing any information will help greatly. I want this next build to set me up for long while, Thank you.

"Update" i am thinking this board http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813132038 with the i5-4670k

Go with the I7 LGA 2011, it will run circles around your AMD.

I just upgraded from an FX-6300 and its amazing the difference. I am like you an admitted AMD fanboy and I just upgraded to an I7 3820.

Lets put it this way, I render alot nowadays and on Luxrender (an unbiased render engine) the FX-6300 would take a minimum of 10 minutes before I had the beginning of a fuzzy render (picture or scene from poser or daz) but with the I7 I have a photo quality render in around 3 minutes with the same video card, ram, SSD etc.

edit:

And if you go with a socket 2011 you have the option to upgrade to a Xeon later if you want.

Stick with amd and get an 8350. You save money sricking with the same mobo and you can put that towards a nice gpu.

Im running a 8350 and have no issues running bf4 max settings at a steady 80ish fps

i had heard that one of the intel sockets was going away i wasnt sure which one tho and yea dropping an 8 core amd in my motherboard was my first idea but i have had small issures with random things and the motherboard is the only thing i can think of that would be the culprit and this the oldest thing in my rig right now so i figured i would get a new one and base the build around that.
