Intel Pentium D 830 vs Core 2 Duo P8400

Another dumb question cause I'm new to this

How would a Intel Pentium D 830 (3.0ghz / 2mb cache / 800fsb) compare with a Intel Core 2 Duo P8400 (2.2ghz / 3mb cache / 1066 fsb)?

I'm rebuilding my girlfriends computer and would like to know if I can expect similar performance from the older desktop's D830 as from my current laptop's P8400.

Any input would be very much appreciated!

P.S. Would it be wise to spend $90 and grab a D 960 (3.6ghz / 4mb cache / 800fsb) ???

Would I see a huge performance increase?

Pentium D's are old architecture and a Core 2 will spank its ass even with a slower clock speed.

P8400 is faster.
And no,it's not worth it pay $90 more for Pentium D960

Pentium D's are just 2 old P4's sandwiched together on the same die. I certainly would not consider one for a modern build.
