I have a Intel Motherboard D101GGC.

Currently this motherboard running On Intel Pentium 4 HT 524 (3.06 GHZ, 1 MB L2 Cache, 533 MHZ FSB) Processor..
I want to Update the CPU to Pentium D 945...

Motherboard : INTEL D101GGC

AA Revision : AAD35788 - 310

BIOS VERSION : GC11010N.86A.0311

Is it possible to INSTALL the new cpu pentium D 945 on my motherboard... Do i need to update my motherboard BIOS...

RAM : 2 GB DDR 1 (400 MHZ)

GRAPHICS CARD : AMD HD 6670 DDR3 (2 GB)

SMPS : IBALL 400 Watt (XPS-252)

If I update the cpu, my new system will be able to running smoothly or any chances for system
failure..

Please explain..

I Had installed the cpu without updating the BIOS..

Initially it runs ok.. But when I check the temperature in BIOS Hardware monitoring the temp is increasing...

I am using my old HEAT SINK ( CPU Pentium 4 ) ....

Finally the temp is 72 C...
I am really shocked.... My Pentium 4 maximum goes to maximum 64 C...

I am using windows 8.1...

First time when Windows 8.1 started the booting is hanged, so forcefully needed to restart but still no boot.... After that I had power off from my UPS.... Then again started my windows.... Now windows started and my windows desktop in opened.. But after few times its got freeze / hanged.. So again forcefully restart... 3rd time windows run for few minutes... Started to watching full HD videos.... But when I started Mozilla Firefox after some time ... The system got hanged...
And it happens again and again....

Finally checked the temp is 72 C...

So hopelessly remove the pentium D And installed the OLD CPU....

So what I Will do now.. i Wanted to install the new CPU....

Any suggestion would be helpful..

BIOS version? What motherboard revision? The following support the D945:
- D35788-308 or later
- D33947-308 or later

Using too old a BIOS version or motherboard revision will cause issues.

72°C is not alarming; 100°C would be. You should use a better cooler because the D945 has a slightly higher TDP. Are you sure the D945 is good (presuming your BIOS and motherboard support it)?

I had already mentioned ...

Motherboard : INTEL D101GGC

Motherboard AA Revision : AAD35788 - 310

BIOS VERSION : GC11010N.86A.0311

I choose Intel Pentium D 915, Because Intel D101GGC Support Only Celeron processor, Pentium 4 and Pentium D only...
The latest series of Dual core processors ( Like Intel Pentium G3220, G4440) are not supported by this Motherboard. They are also LGA 775 Socket but not supported by this motherboard...

The range of Supported Processors for D101GGC are PENTIUM 4 ( From 506 to 661) , Pentium D ( 805 To 950) and CELERON Processor ( 325J to 351 )...

So among all the Outdated Processors Like Pentium 4 , Pentium D, I think Pentium D 945 is one of the best. Pentium D 950 Is supported by D101GGC But its TDW is Very high ( TDP 130 WATT)... So I didnt choose the last one INTEL D 950.

So the only option is Intel Pentium D 945...

I neither want to change my motherboard nor my Ram. Only wanted to change the processor.
So these are reason I choose INTEL PENTIUM D 945...
But all the efforts are In Vein.

My mother board is too much old (Year 2006), So its almost 10 years... There is a risk to Flash BIOS In a OLD Motherboard..

And Intel website mentioned only Floppy Disk method.... I think Floppy is not available in market... Not sure about the USB Boot method for this motherboard....

Your BIOS has to be flashed to the current version (0313) that was released almost 10 years ago. Flashing a BIOS is not more risky because the motherboard is old; there always is a risk, but you probably have no other option if you want to use the D945. I find it weird that BIOS version 0310 is not available for download.

Don't you have a floppy drive on that old system?

Please check..... Revision no is 310 .... BIOS version is 0311

I also tried to find the particular BIOS VERSION 0311.... But didnt find it anywhere... Not even in INTEL Site...

I have a floppy drive.... But didnt use it... Detached from the power supply... Dont know its present condition... I think floppy DISK is also not available in local market....

I will go for USB BIOS FLASH .... OR... CD/DVD BIOS FLASH...

SO It will be helpful if you share a Tutorial Or a video related to USB - BIOS FLASH For INTEL MOTHERBOARD....

Bcoz I already Have an another Computer System... :) Specification Given below....

PROCESSOR : INTEL PROCESSOR CORE i7 6900K

MOTHERBOARD : ASUS MOTHERBOARD RAMPAGE V EXTREME

RAM : 32 GB DDR4 RAM (O.C 2400 MHZ)

GRAPHICS CARD : MSI GRAPHICS CARD R9 FURY X 4GB

CABINET : COOLER MASTER CM STORM CABINET STRYKER

COOLER: CORSAIR CPU LIQUID COOLER H100i GTX

SMPS : CORSAIR SMPS AX 860i

HDD: WD HARD DISK 4 TB SATA GOLD

SSD: SAMSUNG INTERNAL 2.5-INCH SATA 3.0 SSD 850 PRO 1TB

OPTICAL DRIVE: ASUS DVD WRITER 16X BLU-RAY BW-16D1HT PRO

MONITOR : SAMSUNG MONITOR 28'' 4K ULTRA HIGH DEFINATION LED LU28D590DS/XL

UPS : APC UPS 1.5 KVA

So, my friend I already have a new computer system. Having a new computer system, I think I dont need an high update for my old computer system... I just want to keep it alive. I dont want to sell my old computer. Bcoz it was my first computer and I love this old computer.... Just wanted to speed up my old computer..
Thats the purpose of keeping such an antique system..

One thing I wanted to say, are you sure usb bios boot will not be able functioning in my old computer system... I had installed windows through usb boot in my old system... And you-tube also shows that old intel motherboard are able to usb bios boot...

Yahoooooo.... Finallyy I have done it today [ 22 June 2016 at 4:52 P.M ] . ..

I have updated my BIOS version from 0311 to 0313....

And I had done it using USB BIOS UPDATE method.... INTEL SITE is so much wrong.... No need for floppy drive...

I had taken the risk and fulfill my goal....

Next thing is install the Pentium D 945 CPU ... Before that I will buy a COOLER MASTER CPU AIR COOLER ...

Lets see what will happen next..... :)

Bought a cooler master air cooler. And now my old computer system is running well.. Pentium D 945 is performing well.. Still now no system crashes... But processor temperature is somehow rising... overheating.... don't know why.... But Windows running smoothly... Played Assassins Creed Unity in medium settings... No problems except overheating...

Thank You..

In the BIOS Menu Temperature Hardware Monitoring initially shows the CPU temp is 51 C.. But its gradually increase to near about 71 C in IDLE condition.. Dont know why its happening... Bcoz I had installed a Cooler Master HYPER 212X...

After buying the cooler I hoped The temp will stable near about 45 c... But I was wrong...

But one thing the system is stable now... INTEL Site shows the max temp of Pentium D 945 is 67 C...

Mine goes to above 72 C in load condition.... Never faces that type of situation in my old Pentium 4 CPU...

Dont know what will happen next..

Tcase of the D945 is 63.4°C, but it will throttle at much higher core temperatures. I wouldn't be worried about 72°C at full load, but if the setting is available in the BIOS, you could try lowering the vcore a bit until it no longer is stable, then increase it back to a stable voltage. If you're worried about the longevity of the CPU, then buy a few spares; they cost $2 a piece.

Please mention the name of spares you are talking about.. Is it Thermal Paste or anything else...
