i got an intel pentium dual-core e5800 today, managed to install it too. i have a 'default' intel cpu cooler, i got it with my previous cpu (a pentium dualcore e5200). i applied thermal paste (the kind the people at the store recommended).
i have an asus p5kpl-am epu motherboard.

is a 43-44C temperature in bios okay?

i set the "fan profile" to performance mode and now the temperature is more steady, but the rpm is jumping around between 980-1190.

i honestly dont remember what my old cpu's temps were exactly, but it was definitely lower, and i'm kinda freaking out.

should i get a new cooler? try to reapply the paste? can i leave it like this?

Solution
You most likely wont run into any issues with your CPU temperature being around 40-50 Celsius when Idling. If it gets hotter turn the CPU fan speed up. If the Cooling fan isn't doing the job you can upgrade to a more powerful one for a small amount of money.
