Intel Pits HDD Against SSD in Human Productivity Faceoff

So how stacked was this, nice that they don't say what the HDD speed is. We know the SSD is going to be fast but it seems like one of those supposed humor commercials.

So mean to give someone a standard HDD and another person a SSD and ask them to copy 3.6GB of files.. Kind of funny though how she kept egging on the other competitors "are you sure its not user error?" "Did you do it right?"

lol I don't know what it is about that actor lady, but she made me laugh the entire time doing the whole "arrogant employee" thing.

Wasn't too long ago this video would have been RAID0 vs regular hard drive. SSD's slap even my RAID0 around.

Yes, but in some ways even staged events better convey the actually benefits of something rather than soulless numbers.

Well, can't see the video at work, but from my own experiences with a SSD computer at home and my crappy 5200RPM HDD laptop provided by work, I am frequently sitting, waiting for my computer to finish some task or another. Then again, you can do other things if your computer is chugging--it's mostly the "why does this computer have to be so slow vs. my home computer" frustration issue.

I just got a Crucial 128GB Vertex 3 to supplement the 320GB in my lappy. The side effect is that my desktop has become slower. lol

Better to have a HDD. That way you can browse the internet while the transfer files and have an excuse why you're taking so long

All it too for me to switch over the company to all SSDs was a quick demo of how fast Adobe CS ran on a SSD. These were first gen Intels ($300 a piece) at the time and the write speed was terrible. Now we've switched to all Sata 3 SSDs and they are amazingly fast. I haven't used a spinning platter drive in over 3 years. I even threw them in some old AMD X2 computers and they perform like a whole new computer.

If you're still waiting to make the switch, you've waited too long. Best performance gain for your money.

Just got a new SAN with all flash drives. Holy crap is all I a can say.

Wha!? Where's the happy ending? I would have liked to see the part where they tell their employees that they're competing against a SSD. Now I'm left wondering if they thought they were gonna get fired for working slowly lol.

Gettng Thunderolt ports into windows laptops at the beginning of 2012 would have done much more to increase Human Productivity than shaving a few seconds off of startup times with an SSD. In the office environment most computers are not turned off, and virus scans take pace overnite. Companies with large numbers of traveling employees would benefit much more by having 10 gigabits of bandwith for backups and teleconfrencing, than having a SSD.

[citation][nom]Realbeast[/nom]SSDs open my games faster so I later have time to do real work, so yup SSDs enhance my productivity.[/citation]
O stop lying it opens your games faster so now you have more time to play games and ignore your work 😛

Open mouth, insert foot. What good would a 10GB thunderbolt connection do, when your drive can only sustain 133mb? Ohh look how fast your computer is until the drive buffer of 32mb fills up in 1/100th of a second....

dalethepcman, think big business!

10 gigabit thunderbolt can backup PDQ on lots of hotel/confrence centers 100 gigabit server backbones right to the corporate headquarters!

Yes and tell me which SSD is going to get my super high definition video presentation to the super high definition jumbo monitor, Thunderbolt comes in handy for that also!
