I believe the article says the notebook's thickness to be 20mm (notice 2 "M"s), not processors being 20nm. Just to correct the first comments.

@smapple... There were laptops as thin or thinner than the macbook air when it first came out, and they were cheaper. It's hard to see how this is just the industry catching up when they've had an equivalent product cheaper from the start.

Intel cannot compete with ARM in the smartphone and tablets market, so they had to settle with the thinnest laptop. That a major milestone for Intel. 😀

Intel gazes into their crystal ball and says that the future of the PC is the MacBook Air? Are you kidding me? I can go over to my Local Apple Store and buy an ultra-book today! Hmmm.

Side by side the UX21 looks slightly thinner than the Air overall, might just be a trick of the eye, but it does look that way. engadget have a video of a guy stacking holding them against each other directly towards the camera for comparasion.

The Ultrabook, as Intel sees it, won't be powered by any mobile ARM chip or Atom. Instead, it'll start with the 2nd Generation Intel Core processors.
If neither ARM nor Atom are used in the Ultrabook, then Intel should be using the processors with the ULV (Ultra Low Voltage) SKU, where these processors have a TDP of 17watts.
Intel will start with Sandy Bridge and next year will use Ivy Bridge, where the later will be more adequate for the Super-thin Ultrabook segment.

That ASUS in the picture is a really sexy notebook... ultrabook whatever. But I do see a problem. The really fast processor will probably be paired with really lousy graphics to lower heat output.
