Intel Q6600 @ 3Ghz throttle ati 5850?

I bought everything in my computer 2 years ago, and at the time the 8800gt was the best bang for the buck for 22" at 1680x1050.

Recently I have upgraded my monitor to a 23" at 1920x1080 and the 8800gt doesn't want to keep up with the resolution.
Currently thinking about upgrading to ATI's HD5850 but I need some inputs.

Will my Q6600 @ 3 throttle the graphics card?

no it wont. 5850 is about the maximum ur cpu can take.
