I have a q9650 running at 3.8ghz over the stock 3.0. So...

Does anyone think I can get away with running a gtx 960, 4gb card without much bottle neck? If not, I could upgrade the cpu cooler and get about 4.2 stable. How would that pair with the card? And, if possible would a gtx 970 be bottlenecked horribly at a 4.2ghz OC?

Just trying to get a few more months out of my rig and have a gt 730 1gb card running, it's horrible. Need a new card!

Bonus question- how would you think this computer would work as a streaming rig? Game on my future computer, and dedicate this one solely to uploading through OBS and recording gameplay. Thanks guys/gals!

Specs:
-Q9650 Quad Core @3.8ghz
-8gb 1333mhz ram
-AsRock Mobo
-120gb Kingston Boot SSD
-2 2tb WD Black Drives in raid 1
-GT 730 1gb Gpu
-750w EVGA Modular power supply

I've run an R9-285 with an O/Ced QX6800 @ 3.72GHz, Justajohn has a QX9650 @ 4.15 with 2x HD7850s I don't think you'll have any problems.
Mine score 7000 in Firestrike, Justajohns 7500. The CPU is holding things back but no bottleneck type issues.

Mines 1066fsb and DDR2 memory, if my GPU isn't choked then I don't think you will be even close.

BTW R9-285 is same as R9-380, just clocked different.

I found this example on another forum and copied it here. I didn't want to link the whole discussion because most of it was differing opinions and no facts.

" Videocard: MSI GTX970 Gaming 4G
Processor: Q9550 @ 4.0Ghz
Mainboard: Asus P5Q DELUXE
Memory: G. Skill 4G DDR2 @1130MHz

Hi Blacklac,

as you can see from my specs, i have a system with a Core2Quad and a 970 and i also play at 1080p and so far the experience has been great. I know that my 970 is being bottlenecked by my cpu but i don´t care because i play at "only 1080p" and because sooer or later i´m gonna build a new rig and put my 970 on it.

As for how good BF4 runs on this kind of system i can´t answer to that because i don´t have a copy of that game.
The only thing i can do is try to play it using Origin´s timed demos.

Hope this helps somehow. "

Technically "botttlenecking" is when the GPU has to STOP and wait for data from the CPU. This is a much more serious problem than just having the CPU, or memory being the slower part of the system.

i think you could run a 970 on that rig without much bottleneck
a 960 is going to be fine
but if your in that price range WAIT for the r9 480 at the end of this month its said to be as fast as the 390x and the same price as the 960
