Hi,
Since ryzen does very well with quick low latency RAM i was wondering what it was like on Intel's side. Does RAM speed really matter as much as it does on ryzen? My motherboard only supports up to 2666mhz RAM and I was wondering if there will be a big performance cut over something like 3200mhz RAM. The CPU will probably be an i5 9400 using the integrated graphics. No gaming will be done its mostly for writing emails and Youtube.

Solution
Not at all will memory speed make much of a difference in those tasks, not even for Ryzen.

What'll make a bigger difference is a good internet connection and a high refresh rate monitor making life easier on the eyes.

I looked at a lot of benchmarks before I built my last PC and, for Coffee Lake processors, it looks like memory speeds below about 2666 MHz definitely do negatively impact performance, and memory speeds above about 3600 MHz don't actually improve performance.

However, the effect isn't very large and the exact boundaries are a little fuzzy.

Edit: Just noticed that you said e-mails and Youtube. For those applications, it won't really matter.

Thanks for the quick reply!

I have one more question. Would the gigabyte b365m ds3h work of the box with the core i5 9400? Would i have to do a bios update and would the integrated graphics be as simple as plunging the hdmi into the motherboard?

Ram speed does make a difference on intel processors, but mostly for integrated graphics.
Not so much for batch apps.
Here is an older study:
The key is to use a dual channel ram kit.

I might suggest that you reconsider your choice of processors.
I recently built a pc for my son using a i3-10100 processor.
It is really quick.
https://www.newegg.com/intel-core-i3-10100-core-i3-10th-gen/p/N82E16819118138
It costs less than a 9400, has 8 vs 6 threads and is faster,
Here are the passmark links:
https://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?cpu=Intel+Core+i5-9400+@+2.90GHz&id=3414

Both use HD630 integrated graphics.

You can use any lga1200 motherboard. They start as low as $65 or so.

For desktop work, use a ssd of some sort.

Ok thanks for the suggestion! My local PC store bundles cpu's and motherboards so im getting the i59400 and a b356m for less than 250$ CAD.
