Intel rapid storage technology...should this be on or off in the bios?

Hi folks, I am in the process of building a new computer for my sons xmas and have got most of the components already (only a proper monitor and graphics card to buy) but I have a question about the Intel rapid storage technology tab that is in the main screen of the motherboard bios (Asus Z170i mini itx mobo).

When I was first asking questions about the set up, the Intel rapid storage tab was OFF, however now its ON.....which I didn't do, the only thing I can think of that done this was when I manually installed the NVMe driver for the Samsung SM951 m.2 ssd....would that have changed this setting?

I don't know what the Intel rapid storage technology is or does and if its better to be ON or OFF?

Intel Rapid Storage is meant to increase performance, especially if your main disk is a HDD instead of a SSD. However it works with both, no problem on setting it to on.

Ok thanks for that.....would the SM951's NVMe driver switched that on though?

Malcky, honestly I've never heard of a driver capable of making changes directly on the BIOS. Most likely you have set the BIOS to its default settings and Rapid Storage is on by Default.

Also it could be that the bios recognized the NVME device and automatically set the Rapid Storage option to ON. Either way it's perfectly normal and your setup is good to go.

Thanks for your help and the link above....certainly sounds like its a good thing to have enabled so I'm not worried.
