News Intel reaches 'exciting milestone' for 18A 1.8nm-class wafers with first run at Arizona fab

Assuming nothing else has been canceled the first 18A desktop should be Nova Lake in 2026.

The only thing I can think of which could be sooner would be an ARL refresh if it happens and Intel opts for 18A instead of continuing to use N3.

So, after firing Pat Gelsiger for being unsuccessful, the 18A process turns out to be success, after all?
Maybe someone should check the competence of the Intel board...
 
You must love high prices. AMD is forced to purchase from TSMC or Samsung. Adding Intel Fabs as a 3rd option gives AMD some negotiating power.
Absolutely true. Even though Intel has shown despicable behavior and lack of ethics in the past, the customers do ALWAYS benefit from larger competition. The more succsessful chipmakers are out there, the higher the potential competition, the better the technological development and the more competitive the prices. So Intels 18A node being a success will benefit everyone as it would sencourage the development of better products at lower prices.
