As soon as Ryzen launched and caught them off-guard, it was obvious to me that Intel would assemble an internal team to make a suitable answer. It would take a few years, but Intel wouldn't just sit idle and reduce nanometers forever. Eventually, they would launch a brand new architecture. I think this new branding is indicative of that.
