If Intel keeps running like this, there's no way AMD can catch them. Kudos to Intel, the giant has woken (and thanks AMD for the Athlon 😀)

Awesome! I know AMD and GlobalFounries is on great track with 32nm and/or 28nm also.

But, Intel at least, probably still won't releasing low-end 32nm chips until late this year - after all, they still have to release the Core i5's (45nm) around quarter 3, so I don't think they'd start releasing 32nm products before then.

Apparently you only do half the research in order to have an educated opinion. have you ever heard of GlobalFoundries?

The foundry spinoff won't create a new processor design. I wish AMD well, but their getting hammered by Intel. Competition drives innovation, and the Phenom architecture was less than phenomenal. It just seems like if you state the true state of affairs that Intel is doing much better than AMD, fanboys rate you negatively for stating the obvious.

I wish AMD could plop down a devastating new architecture that would wipe the floor with Intel, but I don't see that happening any time soon, and until it does, the company with the superior architecture gets my business.

You have a point there but not everybody thinks like you. Most of us really care about perf/price and AMD is doing very well at that. Maybe they won't get that much profit by lowering their prices but i believe they're certainly going to get them trough this year. Next year will be different because maybe the economy will get better and core i5 will be out but we'll see how well it fares.
There is another aspect that you are not seeing. Nehalem is the top notch architecture right? Who is going to buy it in this economy? i7 sales aren't hurting Phenom II but i5 might do that. That's why next year will be critical to AMD.
I like AMD's products, i bought an X3 720 and it works great but i think that 2011 is a bit too late for a new architecture. I mean Intel will release sandy bridge by then. I'm just hoping that the long awaited Bulldozer will worth the 6 year (or more) developing time.
Now about Intel's 32nm architecture... I'm betting High-k metal gate dielectrics accounts for a big percent in Intel's performance lead because of the smaller switch times (and smaller transistors, less leakage and so on). I'm waiting for GlobalFoundries to get this going with AMD's CPU's and maybe then we'll see some more competition.

lol moron, amd is focused on providing the best price to performance ration, so go ahead and spend over three hundred dollars just so you can check your email and play some dx9 game lol...can't stand fan boys.

Your argument is like saying you only buy Lamborghinis or Porsches, and that Ford, GM, Toyota, etc... should all just stop making cars since they don't have a car that can compete with the Enzo Ferrari. Most people don't have a problem with their compact or sedan. Most people can't afford any more? Why pay $1k for a Core i7 Extreme when I really just need Athlon X2 4400+ performance, which I can get for under $50?

All I have to say is Core i7 @ 2.4Ghz O/C'd to 4.0Ghz on a decent aftermarket cooler. I used to use AMD religiously UNTIL they tripped over themselves. I purchased the Q6600 and haven't had a problem since. I dont even have it overclocked and I CAN if I want to. It's the G0 stepping model. I just wish AMD goodluck in the future. I would love to see something shiny and new. Also remember that Intel is giving AMD the "rights" to build x86 design processors. I dont think they will ever win... it will always be competition.

Speaking of fanboys...

He said "superior architecture", not the fastest chip. I use to use AMD only, but now a Core2Duo populates my main machine. I also have a Pentium D, Athlon x2, and Athlon x2 FX60. All are good preforming chips but the Core2Duo eats them alive. If AMD comes back at Intel with superior architecture (not just the fastest), that will be in my next box.

Heh AMD can barely take out a QX6800 65nm cpu and has barely started using 45nm, but then again this is how its always been- AMD one process generation behind, and they always survive, lets see what they can pull off.

QX6800 is a 65nm part, dude.

I understand you're a fanboy, but do your research beforehand.

Btw, the Phenom II beats a Q9550 soundly. Tom's did a test earlier back. Were you under a rock?

[citation][nom]apache_lives[/nom]ummmmmmmmmmmmmm yes thats why i said "QX6800 65NM CPU" which is a 3ghz part, your Q9550 is what, 2.8ghz? thats why i wrote QX6800 as an example.Read before blasting[/citation]

Oops, read it wrong.

My apologies.

I can't wait for 65W quadcore cpu's from intel. the current stuff out is what 135 watt or something, not too good for the wallet on the utility bill. core2duo is what I recommend to gamers since i7 doesn't necessarily show a dramatic improvement and it consumes a great deal more power.

Are you joking me? That's the most fanboyish statement I've ever heard! You're going down in history, bud.

Q6600 G0 stepping is an 89w part

The new Intel quads with the 'S' are 65w parts

The i7 is a monster (power users and the right apps) and DOESNT consume much more power (more efficent) then a Core 2 part, and your getting the benifit of 8 threads, 3 memory channels etc

Get your facts right.

That's what Bulldozer's all about , but it's coming in 2011. This would help Intel offer cheaper mainstream products. No competition is the reason why they won't be offering a 6 core Socket 1156(Lynnfield) CPU next year(And that'd help Phenom II outsell Intel in the
