Intel ssd 730 480 & 240 gb raid 0 ?

Hi all,
i am new on forum , and need your help . Recently i upgraded my workstation to 4960x and sabertooth x79 and 4x4gb beast kingston. I would like to ask i've got already kingston ssd 730model with 240gb, in few days another 480gb 730 model will arrive in my rig.
I am using those ssd's for write/read small files ( 10gb data base , and files are on avg 10-15kb ) , my question is how those 2ssd's are going to work together on raid 0 ?
I know is best to have 2same ssd's in order to work perfectly, but i was not able to get 2same at this time .

I'm pretty sure your larger drive will be running at half capacity in that configuration.

You can put them in RAID 0 but you get very little real-world performance increase. You only see a big difference in synthetic benchmarks.

Also, in RAID 0, you would lose 240GB of space on the second SDD. So that would be a total waste.

aha oke , i understand, so what u prefer/recommend? what is best option to do in order to work best/gain best performance ?

Unless you are needing a ton of bandwidth for transferring very large file sizes locally or over 10gb+ networks, then I would recommend the most simple route: keep your OS and programs (if they will fit) on the 240gb SSD that you currently have and use the 480gb for your file storage.

From the sounds of your working file sizes, that would see more reliability and better random access than a raid 0 setup which adds complexity and of course, possible complete data loss if one drive malfunctions.

yep os and programs fit on 240gb
problem here is that program i am using is connected with postgres database , and it have to be installed on partition where my os is installed in order to work properly .

so , what u recommend, to put 480gb(faster one) as main drive ?

How big is the program? 240GB isn't enough?

If it needs to be on your OS drive then I see two options. The more reliable option is like you said, put the OS on the 480gb drive. You could just clone the whole thing from the 240gb drive over, simple. You could even install your largest applications that can function on a separate drive on the 240gb.

Next option, more complex and not guaranteed for success, depending on how your database program operates, you might be able to create a JBOD array which would (hopefully) be recognized as a single drive by the database.

to make my and your life easier, i've got one more computer in my office, is it better to move this 240gb(slower) to that one(i could use it as well in that machine), and to leave this faster / bigger 480gb to my master pc/computer?
