[citation][nom]killerclick[/nom]Intel is awesome, unlike Wall Street businesses these guys actually contribute to society with their excellent products. I just wish they had competition worthy of them. Instead they have AMD...[/citation]
I bet my $140 AMD processor is faster than your $250 intel processor..

I bet your wrong! I have a X4 955, love it, dont need anything more. But the fact is, not only is Intel smashing AMD in performance, they are doing it in power consumption and value too. You can get a i3 for $100-115 now. Not only will this pretty much beat most AMD processors around the same price, as in dual core Phenom and Athlons II's, it will do so using less power, and overclock higher. Intels middle range is a little bit weaker, as far as about $150. Go to $200, and its not competition. The 2500K will blow any X4 or X6 out of the water in performance, OC far higher, and still use less power. Intel is winning, plain and simple. Currently, the only AMD CPU worth buying is the X4 955, my CPU 😛

Really? I have nearly the same setup as soldier37 and I get 130ish fps. Granted I'm down an ssd and 2gigs of that ram. What settings are you using? Oh and I have an Intel i7 920

[citation][nom]goodguy713[/nom]thats awesome on intels part but what the hell are they going to do with all that extra money?.. lol sit on it for years ..[/citation]

We'll do something extremely stupid with it. Like buy an antivirus company.

Acquisitions, building plants, settling out of court; you know, every-day stuff :)

That's why they are constantly sued for anti trust reasons.

[citation][nom]dogman_1234[/nom]Why don't they lower CPU prices to aid the consumer?Really, IMHO, if I were an engineer, I would be happy with my 60,000 dollars a year salary.[/citation]

Actually, that is what a starting grad makes. My dad has been working at Intel since 1980's , betrayed them to AMD cause they actualyl pay higher, found the work environment to be very POLITICAL and saw the crap they had, left, and got back Into Intel in like 2004.

He says he makes around 175K without all the other compensation and bonus.

But still, he works his ass off and for his effort (7 am to wok, 11 PM back, and a phone conference usually at like 1 AM.....), he should be getting 250K.

Management isn't too great at Intel either also he says "idiot business grads right"

He tells me that he and his group had an idea of an iphone like device in 2002, he went to the big bosses and they said no they said "Animesh, what are you talking about, this would never get off" They told him it was stupid to think of manipulating a screen by touch so small. That is why I hate business grads............

Just so you guys know, a "4X bonus multiplier" does not necessarily mean 4X the usual bonus. Intel tends to pay a lower base salary, but adds "bonuses" on top of that to incentively the employees to perform well. The 4X multiplier is just one part of the equation and that number varies each year.

That being said, it *is* one of the highest bonuses of the last few years. Given that Intel has performed well during a down economy, perhaps it's okay for the Intel management to spread the wealth.

My mom is a school teacher and makes 75k a year and can barely use the remote control to turn on her TV. I'm pretty sure Intel engineers easily make well over the 120k a year, if not past the 200k mark.

I just hope that Intel keeps having "record" years (and hires me back) after I finish grad school!

For your sake, I REALLY hope you're kidding. A company that doesn't reward its employees when it prospers is a company that won't be prospering for very long.

And I can guarantee you, IF you were an engineer, you would feel mistreated if you were making only 60k/year.

all the while they could have used that money (which they saved) to hire people!

This society is sick!

Rich people get even more, and poor people with talents are not been given the chance!
Ok, so the rich guy will buy a new car, and a pool for his $100m home; while the poor won't be able to finance the loan on their $0.5m home!

I know taxes are higher here, but I don't get much less than that, and I'm just an ordinary computer nerd working in the educational sector - an underfunded sector here in denmark.

They have built some very good products so they should be prosperous. Some of their cpu prices are very high, their lower end cpu prices aren't that bad. Of course you can buy AMD for less money, and get less performance.

I've only had two complaints about Intel pricing
1. When they bring out new processors, they don't discount the old processors very much. TWO YEARS ago I bought a Q9400 for about $200. I don't see that one on newegg right now but their Q8400, which is a less expensive processor to begin with, is $170.
2. Their high end cpu's are very much more expensive than their lower end cpu's. An i7-950 is about $295, an i7-960 which is roughly 4.6% faster, is $580, almost exactly TWICE the cost. Of course as far as I'm concerned, I just pretend that the 960 doesn't even exist and then it doesn't bother me as much.

One way of helping AMD.

Amazing how a company can lie, cheat and steal it's way to the top. Pay billions of dollars in fines to the numerous companies it cheated and stole patents from and still be able to pay out huge bonuses.
Just goes to show, crime DOES pay.
