Perhaps not for the people that play games, but for the people who make games this will be awesome. As a 3D artist, I can't wait to see how ZBrush will perform with 20 threads. Rendering in mental ray with Autodesk Maya will be fun too.

[citation][nom]zipzoomflyhigh[/nom]Wow, Intel must really feel threatened by AMD's upcoming 16 core.[/citation]

I don't think this is Intels response to their 16 core CPUs. Intel will have server parts from Sandy Bridge that will fight AMDs 16 core CPUs.

Now what most people are missing is that this is a server CPU only. The EX series always has been and will be. Of course we will see our own version on the desktop in some time, but probably not till well after since the server market could use this type of extra performance.

I do wonder what kind of performance the ring bus communications might give.....

I expected 2X cores with each step.
We had 1 to 2 cores (100% improvement).
We had 2 to 4 cores (100% improvement).
We had 4 to 6 cores ( 50% improvement).
We had 6 to 10 cores( 66% improvement).

this looks bad.

@Ares1214, Your analogy is really really good. Mind if I use it when explaining multicore tech to my friends? 😛 I would alter your example a little bit to include IPC, but you totally made my day! +1

One feature that did not make it into Nehalem-EX due to time constraints but will be in Westmere-EX is Directory Assisted Snoopy (DAS) to improve local memory latency.

In case Snoopy gets lost hunting down the Red Barron.

Though really, we're getting some more good heads up, though I tend to wonder if one of the reasons some features aren't in yet are that they don't want to give AMD too much time in the lead so to speak. Both companies have good features down the line, with AMD coming out with a whole new architecture re-design. I don't think it'll be as fantastic as the K7, because Intel is not resting on their lounge chairs by the pool eating grapes like they were with the p4 and netburst.

I don't know about everyone else, but I WANT a server-level CPU in my next desktop. Having more power than you need or can control properly doesn't cut into the sportscar market, so why computers?...

To me It sounds more like the era of P4 more more speed "more performance" but what about efficiency?.......(nothing). Now instead of speed more cores with treads... what about real architecture and no sandwich cores with treads.. also prices ?, i think blue team might be a little nervous about their products...

[citation][nom]mattamonett[/nom]I am the only person on earth that laughs at ignorant comments like And comments about how most games don’t take advantage of n number of cores. It is just sad that people that know so little about the subject would even open their mouths. Didn’t anyone tell you people to keep your mouth shut unless you know what you are talking about? If your app doesn’t support multiple treads by this day in age then it is for good reason. It is not like the developer just refuses to make the app multi-threaded for no reason. It is likely because of two reasons… either the app is so undemanding of cpu power that it doesn’t need it or the problem the app solves just isn’t capable of being done in a non-serial fashion.I have written probably millions of lines of code. I can tell you first hand that some apps will likely never be highly muti-threaded because they just require a step by step process that can’t be done any other way. Come on people you should be ashamed of yourselves. You gamers are the worst of all. You think you know something about computers because you can install a game or set your AA video settings. There is more to that expensive rig… try opening something useful or even just browsing the net for knowledge.Let the flames begin and the stupidity.[/citation]
No flame here...I agree with you. I do enjoy good laughs on here though...especially at those who think they everything is for gaming and that AMD prioritizes itself for PC enthusiasts! LOL.

Matt you're the fucking tard try reading some comments idiot. Their saying the same shit you just said, without all the bullshit. And by the way I'm bill gates I said it it must be true.

See the difference between a professional and a gamer? I have no offences to gamers, but sometimes they just think they know everything because they got Crysis running 8xAA!!!!!!!

I am the only person on earth that laughs at douchebag comments like
"You gamers are the worst of all. You think you know something about computers because you can install a game or set your AA video settings."
Oh nice, you put all gamers in one basket. Generalization is really nice! You can inform and correct people without looking like a tool...
