Intel Wifi Link 1000 BGN not working on Sony notebook

Hi

I'm not able to connect to any wireless networks on my Sony Vaio SB16FG. When I turn on the wireless switch, bluetooth turns on but wireless does not. I've tried upgrading and downgrading the driver but to no avail.

Could this be a hardware problem? Can I get it repaired at a service centre? There are no service centres in my town, and I have to travel 170 kms to the nearest city that has one.

Please help me.

1 Make sure an access point is set up.
2 Turn on the WIRELESS switch.
3 Click the VAIO Smart Network icon on the taskbar.
4 Click the switch next to Wireless LAN to toggle it to On in the VAIO Smart Network window.
Make sure the WIRELESS indicator light turns on.

I tried doing all this, but still does not work. I guess I should take the laptop to the service center.
