Intel Xeon CPU E3-1245 v3 @ 3.40GHz ***VS*** Intel Core i5 4460 @ 3.2GHz. Which will perform better in gaming?

Solution
They perform pretty similarly. I would take the Xeon for the 4 extra threads if you're basing it off pure performance, and assuming you're going to buy them at the same price.

Buying them retail, for sure get the 4460 because they perform pretty much close to the same but the i5 costs considerably less.

Pretty simple answer the Xeon. That Xeon is a Core i7 3.4 with turbo to 3.7 Ghz vs 3.4 with the i5. It also has 2MB more cache and supports Hyperthreading, not that it helps in most games per se. I use a Xeon with a Z97 motherboard to set 4 cores to all max at highest turbo multiplier which for me is 4Ghz (Xeon E3-1285 v3). Then I undervolt using offset voltages to use the least amount of power. This makes it cool and quiet. I am also thinking about looking for an "L" series Xeon as they are cheaper but ones with high turbo speeds to lock it's turbo rate. The L series chips usually are cheaper because of the low base clock.

Here are the ones I am looking for that are priced similarly to the above if you can find it
