"As others have mentioned, you're not likely to see one of these in a single CPU workstation. You're going to see hundreds or thousands of them in render farms."

Isn't anybody who needs that already using saleable Xeon features that are specifically disabled in Xeon W-3175X?

Honestly this thing feels more like a PR stunt to prove they have the best single-workstation performance, and not like a real product that Intel actually expects very many, if any, people to actually buy. The processor isn't for sale yet. It may never be produced after a single limited-quantity run, the majority of which were probably sent to reviewers.

In render farms power goes beyond the CPU including the cooling.

The other side would be software. Double the licensing and such. There is a lot to a decision in buying these kinds of processors that consumers do not consider.

Don't see how the power draw of components other than the CPU would be relevant when deciding on the CPU.

Agree that licensing costs could be another factor to consider.

One server vs 2 servers power draw and cooling requirements outside of the rack. The less you can get away with the better as you have to spend less on cooling.

I have been talking to some other IT people and outside of one offs or small startups most are planning on sticking to Intel for their networks. I think its mainly because they wont have to mass replace in order to avoid issues with VM software.

Build 2 Threadripper workstations/servers or 4 Ryzen workstations/servers with double the capacity and up to 4x the failsafe for the price of one xeon.

Not sure that Intels fantasy pricing is justified. mm2 die price has fallen. This is way beyond good taste.

As long as Thredripper haven't got certified ECC correction, it's a no sell to a lot of customers.
A few $100 in price difference is not much compared to software licenses and what not going on top of that

The real question that needs answering is: how well does it run Crysis? Inquiring minds want to know.

I'm curious why you didn't hook the processor up with the DDR4 4100Mhz memory it wants. Not surprising it doesn't do great with slow memory. Maybe because the Threadripper can't support that ? Humm.
