Intel's code names are actual places, mostly in the Pacific Northwest. Round Lake is really more square than round.

I though intel had exited the desktop motherboard market? Or was it only going to be after haswell? Or did they change their mind?

Intel is exiting the motherboard market after Haswell. They will however supply new stock of boards for 3 years after introduction and will support the warranties on those boards for 3 years after the sale date. This means that there will effectively be new Intel boards for an additional 6 to 7 years but the boards around the Haswell launch will be the last new SKUs.
