I have not heard of burning up a CPU in such a long time... I mean, don't you have to work at it to get the chip to sizzle? Good luck getting past the boot screen with a bad overclock. You'd have to deliberately set the voltage to something insane.
6 months isn't a very long time frame.
How many people actually kill their CPU in the first 6 months? This is just for people, who do extreme overclocks.
Where does it say that the added insurance only lasts for 6 months?
Also, could the Tom's Hardware staff put a little more time/effort into proof-reading articles before posting them? Please.
For the price it would be hard to pass this one up. During the experimentation phase of setting up a new build this would be nice to have at your back.
Seems like a pretty good idea. Nice marketing too; that low price. Should provide much more security for high voltage tweakers who well... want to try out their new protection plan. Now i want to get myself one.
It's at best useful for extreme overclockers and first time testers . We already know 5.0-5.1Ghz is the upper limit for an i5 2500k on air.And no one is dumb enough to push beyond this range on air.Ultimately paying for the insurance isn't going to improve upon the OCing potential but only your ability to take more risk.So why pay more if you already know that the CPU is unstable or its highly risky to go beyond this point.
Please read the article carefully. They are not saying your only covered for 6 months, just that at this point intel is only letting people enroll for 6 months...
