I just built my rig some months back and all has been well since. Recently just got a Hyper X Cloud (not cloud II) headset, which I believe is a PL branded Qpad headset or something like that. It worked fine right off the bat couldn't be happier. Very comfortable headset.

There is a slight buzzing noise coming through the headset now, it sounds like an interference frequency. And sometimes my mic will go inop when testing it with steam and/or counter strike. It plays the buzz I hear through the headset sometimes when I try to talk in a CS game. It's been hard for me to duplicate the problem while causing instances that would isolate the issue. I seems to be a bit intermittent, for example if I unplug the headset and plug it back in sometimes it just works. I might be missing the change to the scenario that causes that however. I new to the computer front. I also change my dell speaker configuration in attempt to test.

Some more information about the set up. My motherboard doesn't have the headphone jack in the back only the pink one for the mic. The other two slots do stereo output so I either get left or right through the headset if I use that. I have been using the front i/o ports to hook up the headset instead.

The headset comes with a rubber extension cable for the two 3.5mm plugs. This rubber cable seems to be more problematic than the braided version that is mounted on the headset. It works fine without the extension (more than with it). Unfortunately its not long enough without it. I also notice the "feedback" if you will changes sometimes if you move the connector at the headset/extension area.

Sound Blaster is installed
MSI Realtek HD Audio Manager
My Alienware monitor comes up as a Audio device for some reason probably irrelevant

I am using the front panel i/o ports for the headset. Rears jacks don't work for headset.

MSI z87-G41 PC-Mate

HyperX Savage 8GB Ram

Seagate 1TB HDD
NZXT Phantom 410 Case
Corsair CX430 PSU

2005 Dell Keyboard
2013 Razer Deathadder
HyperX Cloud Headset
2005 Dell Speaker Set (little sub, center and L+R speakers)

Lately it seems like the only way to get the system to work is by removing the extension.

Any suggestions at all? I can't find the right slots on the back panel.

Any thoughts?

Plug headphone than mic, into front i/o ports. No extension. Works fine, in steam.

hot unplug, add extension, plug headphone into i/o first. Initialize with Realtek as headphones, everything is good. Plug mic into i/o port and when I initialize with realtek the buzzing starts. If I unplug the mic cable at the extension it still buzz's.

Any diagnosis tips?

I feel like this is some sort of ESD type thing, where an imbalance in something is causing this intermittent problem. I remember when I first got the headset the control box was a little funky so I went for the extension instead. I just took the control box out of the package and its working perfect with that. I can't comprehend this scenario. I don't even care if it gets fixed I just want to understand what's going on at this point lol

Anyone have anything for me here? Can someone give me a run down on interference and what to look for? I keep switching the wires and it starts to work for little bit. Then goes back to the interference noise. Sounds like when you turn your gain up to high.

Its like the wires aren't grounded well and it eventually runs out of "ground"

Having this exact same issue. Perhaps Windows let out a weird update and it's causing it? After all, that's probably the only thing that changed.
Here's all the things I tried, and didn't work: http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-2902979/material-blocking-electromagnetic-interference.html#17155930

Perhaps they'll work for you.

Hey thanks for the response. What headset do you have, the HyperX Cloud 1?

From people I have talked to in game who have owned the HyperX headsets, report a similiar issue being the death of them.

Right now I have the volume control box attached inbetween the headset and the extension and it quiets it down to a manable level when the volume is lowered in both Windows and on the Control Box volume wheel. I am in touch with HyperX looking for more answers.

The only faults on my end I believe could be EMI, Power Supply not sufficient, Case not Assembled correctly or Faulty motherboard. I see no other possibilities for faults on my end.

I'm actually using ATH M50Xs
