So I have been having this issue with frequent disconnects from my network on my Asus ROG G502VM gaming laptop. I've done some extreme troubleshooting on this issue. I factory reset my pc a handful of times because I was losing my mind with this. What happened is, when I reset my pc, My wifi connection was flawless, and there isn't any drops in my connection, I stressed tested my connection by having steam open and downloading a large game. I was able to monitor the speed of the download by a graph steam has. However, I isolated the issue when I downloaded the latest Intel chipset AND network adapter driver, it starts to act funky again. What would happen is the steam download would drop all the way from 20+ MB/s to KB/s then eventually to 0. I'd even get a yellow indicator on my wifi symbol on the bottom right of my laptop saying that there is a problem with my connection. This ONLY happens on my speedy 5GHZ connection I have in my place. When I use my 2.4Ghz connection, my downloads are stable with less than desired speeds of 4-5 MB/s. I've talked with customer support and they insist it is a hardware problem and that I should send it in. I don't believe it is a hardware problem, if it was it wouldn't have worked before I installed the latest drivers for the hardware.

SO a quick summary.

Fresh install of windows = no wifi issues.

Installing Intel Drivers = Problem Occurs

Wifi disruption only occurs when downloading from steam on my 5Ghz home network

It has the GTX 1060GB, i7 6700hq, and Intel® Dual Band Wireless-AC 8260 wifi adapter.

I have an Arris TG1672 Modem.

Please help!

Key, I think:

"Wifi disruption only occurs when downloading from steam on my 5Ghz home network."

What channels are you using? Look for interference from other wireless networks.

Other thoughts:

Is the modem/router secure: i.e., you changed the admin login and password? Someone leeching on perhaps...

Do you have any other devices having lag problems?

Roll back to the previous network adapter driver. See if performance is restored.

If not, then roll back the Intel chipset and see if performance is restored.

Could be that one of the updates is buggy or otherwise not playing well with the other.

The other thing I would look for is to see if the wireless adapter is getting hot - works until it heats up and then falters....
