Hi all,

I bought a Sony DDU1621 (16x) DVD-ROM last year in November. It had problems from the first time I played it, sometimes DVD disks are played perfectly, sometimes not. On certain disks, the player will get to a certain point and just hang the whole system. Occasionally it will recover after about 15 minutes, other times my pc has to be reset.

I thought this could be an issue with newer DVD's, but older disks have the problem too. For example, the first time I played 'Men In Black', it played perfectly, every other time after that it gets stuck. The film 'Seven' always gets stuck after about 5 minutes. 'Lord of the Rings' stops half way through.

I have tried my player in two other PC's that have working DVD's, with the same result. The disks all work on my friend's players.

In my analysis, it is the player itself, but when I returned it to the supplier, they said it tested out OK. They refuse to exchange it for me because they say it works.

These are my specs:

graphics: GeForce Ti 4200 - 128Mb
cpu: Intel Pentium4 - socket 423
mobo: Epox Motherboard + Intel 845 chipset (can't remember the version offhand)
ram: 128Mb 133Mhz SD-RAM / 256Mb 133Mhz SD-RAM
os: Windows XP Pro.

I am really stumped at what to do. Can anyone tell me how to prove that this is, or is not the player? Any help would be greatly appreciated. (BTW: please excuse my spelling and grammer, it's 1:48 AM local time)

Thanks in Advance,
Luke Van In

I don't have an answer to your problem, but can you send your DVD discs that you have problem playing along with the drive to the supplier and see if it tests out ok too? This should prove whether the problem is in your drive or not.
