Intermittent Frame Drops in PC games

I have a problem with games. Generally, I set each game to the lowest settings possible to get every last frame. I've been running games smoothly at over 100 FPS (I'm on a laptop) forever. Recently, I've had an issue where randomly the frames will drop to 15-20 and the audio will start stuttering. This will happen for 5 minutes or so, then skyrocket back up to smooth audio and gameplay. I've had this issue in my two favorite games, PlanetSide 2 and Overwatch. I know it's not the games, because I've messed with the settings in each trying to fix the problem. Can anyone help?

P.S. This is my first post, move it wherever you like. Also, I know I didn't put my specs up, if anyone needs them please ask.

P.P.S. All my graphics drivers are up to date, as well as my GPU is always around 60-70 degrees Celsius even after extended gaming sessions.

If it happens for 5 min then the most probable thing is that some other program runs in the background and needs that long to finish what it's doing.
Could also be possible that the laptop overheats and clocks down till it's cool enough again.
You need to check that youre set for performance and not power saving in both you computers control panel and the control provided by the software that runs your graphics card. Catalyst for AMD or Nvidia control panel for Nvidia

Everything is set to performance, and it always has been
