internal hard drives

Solution
there is no difference b/w internal and external in build
external is an internal drive with cover case around it
both have the same principles in working, reliability etc........
as for internal hdd it will have less chance of falling since it is mounted on cabinet
Also internal hdd will have more speed since it connecting via sata port
define your "safe" question

a desktop with an external drive I guess could be mounted in a sata III cable/box.. but what is the point of having a desktop if it isn't to have the hard drive inside the box ? safety as in secured data.... ? Data is never secure on a hard drive of any kind, why ? they make encoded drives ? sure encrypted drives exist, but not what I am saying; any drive can fail, and that in it self "fails " to secure data...

I have 5 computers in this home, 1 NAs drive for backup of all documents, picture, music etc (things to keep) 1 portable 1TB for same purpose.
which makes it 3 copies of everything... it has not failed to save me a number of times through the years... because drive fail.

did I answer your question or did I get lost in my own Segway ?
