Question internal mic vs headset mic

HI all, I have a laptop where the internal mic doesn't work. but when i plug a headset into the audio jack, the mic works fine. when you plug a headset into the audio jack, are you using the same audio HW in the laptop? does this mean the internal mic is defective? thanks

That might indicate that your audio drivers might be out of touch. Make, model and SKU to your laptop? Make and model of your headset?

Might want to see if your laptop is pending any BIOS updates. Following that, if you're on Windows OS, check to see if updates are pending. Following that, uninstall your audio driver, then manually reinstall with the latest audio driver sourced from your laptop's support site, in an elevated command.

but if this was an audio driver issue, wouldn't the mic not work on the headset either?
