my specs are
Intel Core i7 3770k
Intel BOXDZ77GA70K LGA 1155 Intel Z77 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard
SAMSUNG 840 Pro Series
Western Digital WD VelociRaptor
CORSAIR Vengeance LP 16GB
GTX 980

So i have Win 8 installed on my SAMSUNG 840 Pro Series, and then everything else including games, music, movies etc. is installed on my HDD Western Digital WD VelociRaptor.

I have small programs like chrome and itunes on the SSD. but anything that is large is all in the HDD. at seemingly random times the HDD will just stop responding. so if im gaming the game will just freeze. if I'm on the desktop and try to navigate around Steam/origin/uplay that will freeze and give me the not responding error. However, everything installed on SSD is functioning fine. I can still use Chrome even if the HDD is frozen.

I've searched online for any fixes. at one point i thought the HDD was turning off itself after idle time, so i changed it in the power settings to never turn off. But it's still freezing. I have formatted the computer and tried every other solution i can think of and can never get this fixed.

The computer repair store i talked to said it's because there is such a speed difference between the SSD and the HDD and that I have games installed on the HDD and the OS on SSD. it has communicating to each other. I don't really believe that as i never had this problem before until a year ago when. I also want to note. i have had 2 different HDD on this computer and this problem has occured on both.

Sorry for wall o text. this has just been so frustrating and even more so because it's worked fine before. Thanks.

Solution
Are both drives connected to the Gray (Marvell) SATA connectors?

If so move one or both of them to the Blue (Intel) SATA connectors.

the SSD was connected to the blue. HDD was connected to gray. i've switched it over to the blue one now. hopefully this is the solution. i just got home, going to see how the computer reacts.

Update 3/5/15. So it's been awhile now and my computer has yet to freeze once. This seems to have solved the issue. Thank you so much!
