So i have an WD TB hdd that i dont use and just recently bought an usb 3.0 to Sata adapter and i wanted to use the harddrive for my xbox because they support any usb 3.0 hd thats over 256 GB. But when i plug it in to my console it doesnt work like nothing pops up and when i even try to plug it back into my pc with the adapter it says in disk management to insert a disk. Wondering if its even possible to do what im trying to do? And if so can someone help me? Thanks!

Solution

Based on your desired uses. I'd say a dock would be a better fit. You can plug/unplug the drive but it will at least keep the bare drive from sitting directly on the surface. Those adapters are really just meant for temporary use. Such as a technician pulling files off a drive from a dead computer to a new computer.

I dont need a dock right? i just have the adapter.... and my hdd is working right now i just hooked it back up inside my computer and works fine. Any suggestions on what to do?

You're right because i just tested my 2.5'' ssd and it works perfectly can u link me a power adapter thats good? Also, is there power adapters that plug into the wall because im tryna to use it for my xbox one?

It's because im tryna to use a 3.5'' hdd. I just used my 2.5'' ssd and it worked fine. I think i need a power adapter but dont know which is the best one and tryna get one that plug into the wall or outlet.

If it must be an adapter. I couldn't find a brand I recognize which is powered and SATA only. This WEme is powered. ie Comes with a wall jack.

Just be aware with powered adapters. Plug the drive into the adapter. Then power the drive. After which you plug it into USB. You don't want to plug it into USB before the drive is powered and connected. As it won't be recognized. At least that is how my multi-adapter works. It doesn't hurt anything thing. It's just annoying having to unplug and do the sequence again.

I know the rationale but its kinda like buying a car with no wheels or tires. its uses drop dramatically
