Internet connection upstairs but not downstairs

I recently moved in with some friends and I'm having trouble connecting to the internet upstairs in my room, but downstairs there's no issue. The thing is, I don't lose connection to the wireless modem. I get nearly full connection while upstairs but still cannot connect to the internet. We have comcast internet and with my two machines there are 8 connections to the modem. What can I do to get my computers to connect to the internet while i'm upstairs?

Yes. From my desktop I ping'd my laptop at 63/107/121/30 ms, then I ping'd the gateway at 4/2/2/2.

Can you ping www.yahoo.com or www.google.com?

The first test is showing that you are connected to the gateway and local network - so it probably isn't signal strength or issues connecting.

If you can't ping either site - try a simple file transfer between computers and see what happens.

I was able to ping yahoo at 64/62/60/594 ms
I was able to ping google at 32/32/32/40

No webpage ever loads, Steam won't connect, I can't update my antivirus, etc. It says i'm connected to the internet and I can ping, but nothing actually works.

Try these commands from a command prompt:
netsh int ip reset
netsh winsock reset
netsh int ipv4 reset
netsh int ipv6 reset

Then try to load the pages.

Entered them in order, tried to access a website. The website would not load, and when I ping'd the website I got responses of 995/825/386/58 ms

Those ping times are really high. Are any of the other people having difficulty in the "upstairs" rooms?
