Whenever I open up file explorer on my pc (Win 10), or even press the windows key, my internet cuts out for about 15 seconds or until I close the file explorer.

This recently started about 2 weeks ago, and I have never had this issue in the 5 years of owning my PC.

How can I fix this?

that is strange

Try a clean boot and see if it changes anything - make sure to read instructions and make sure NOT to disable any microsoft services or windows won't load right - https://support.microsoft.com/en-au/help/929135/how-to-perform-a-clean-boot-in-windows

if clean boot fixes it, it shows its likely a startup program. You should, over a number of startups. restart the programs you stopped to isolate the one that is to blame.

are you using a WIFI adapter? link

Hey, have you fixed your issue already? Recently I've been pulling my hair from this exact same issue - internet hangs for about 5 to 10 seconds whenever I open file explorer (win+E), click My Computer in file explorer or right click any file anywhere in the system. I managed to nail the issue down to media sharing services probably bombarding my USB Wifi adapter desperately trying to find my new TV that I had synced to my PC to test the screen casting feature (it's absolute garbage btw). First thing I did was to disable any and all kinds of media sharing permissions on the system (usually found under Network and Sharing), but in true MS fashion that obviously wasn't enough, I also had to check under Settings -> Devices -> Bluetooth and other devices, and I removed any and all entries related to my TV there (there was one under Audio and two under Other devices, for whatever reason). Wifi stopped acting up after that.

If you actually do use network stuff that might be causing your wifi to drop, I think your best bet would be to use a cabled connection, as that was one of the first things I validated about my issue and indeed I got no issues while connecting via the LAN cable... I went through many threads about this same issue while looking for a solution for mine, some of them got their systems fixed simply by using a different wifi adapter, that seems like a gamble with your money tho...

Every day I am closer and closer to formatting this s*** and installing Linux 🙃

Made an account just to reply to this, you saved me, this bit here

"I also had to check under Settings -> Devices -> Bluetooth and other devices, and I removed any and all entries related to my TV there (there was one under Audio and two under Other devices, for whatever reason). Wifi stopped acting up after that."

This solved my problem. Mine in particular seemed to be that because the TV I had as a bluetooth device was no longer around me, it caused my wireless to completely disconnect when opening File Explorer or other Windows related things. My thoughts are it was searching for the device that was no longer in range to be connected to, somehow disconnecting the WiFi.
Tested and confirmed it was File Explorer crashing the internet simply by running a Speed Test on Google, then opening File Explorer and watching the download speed fall.

Anyone who has this problem in the future definitely check bluetooth devices and remove all of them.

My network adapter is a Realtek RTL8811AU Wireless LAN adapter, if that helps anyone in the future.

THIS is the solution! I've had this issue for almost two years now. Remove any bluetooth/other devices that are no longer connected, works immediately without restart
