I have had numerous problems over the years with my internet and had several new lines fitted into my house, with the most recent being in August.

However, i need a very stable internet connection for work as i work from home. I have a study which is located in the room above where the router is situated. Everytime someone walks up the stairs of my house or enters the room my internet disconnects. However i am still connected to the router, just i cant use the internet.

Ive tried to fix this by using a wifi extender, so my setup is as followed - PC wired connection to a WIFI extender (because i get faster DL speeds this way) then the extender is connected to my BTHomehub 5.

Ive tried moving the extender etc but it doesnt make a difference.

Any suggestions?

Wireless issues can be finicky. In your situation, I know what I'd do... run a cat5 cable down the wall to the room below with the router. If it is that critical to your work, you'd be better off with a wired connection regardless.

Another thought... if your wireless router is running on a higher bandwidth mode (n > g > b), and is capable of transmitting on a lower bandwidth mode, force it to a lower one. Bandwidth (wireless connection speed) will be lower (which you might not even notice unless you're streaming, etc.), but range will be higher (so the connection might be stronger and less susceptible to whatever issue you're having).

Thanks George. Your first answer was going to be the solution i fell back on if nothing else worked, as due to my house layout it might be a bit tricky. But i may have to resort to this in the new year.

As a reply to your second answer, i will give that a go and let you know how well it worked.

I have also had powerline adapters suggested to me by peers so i might try this before i run the cat5 to my router, thank you makkem.

Thanks for all your answers!
