OMG finally, it just took them 7 damn years to do this when Sony has been doing this with the ps3 console since 2006 and their online access unlike Xbox Live is free! So you'd would have at least suspect this to be in places years ago, I just hope you don't need a gold membership to go online with it and surf the net or else that would really be stupid.

Web sites need to be redesigned:
- remove scrolling (all content on the 16x9 screen)
- navigate via UP, DOWN, LEFT, RIGHT, ENTER
- Icon boxes on Left side of screen to navigate site

Basically they should make web sites navigable similar to a DVD/BD movie menu, however this is going to require a complete site overhaul and this takes time.

Google-TV is going to help push this initiative.

[citation][nom]freedom4556[/nom]But there are things that you can't benchmark, such as the convenience factor of IE coming with Windows and being well-integrated with the taskbar and other Windows 7 features. No, it's not objective, but nothing ever is.[/citation]
It only takes a minute or so to download a different browser, and both Chrome and Firefox (and probably others too) integrate with the taskbar. Plus, what about the lack of good addons for IE?

It's like 25% more expensive in the long run... That's like $80...

I suspect Microsoft believes iTV will be a very big threat, since it is integrated browser, kinect, gaming machine, TV, recorder and siri in one thin device.

Not a big Apple fan myself, never owned any apple device since Apple II.

the xbox 360, should have come with a web browser when it first came out. there is no reason why it could not be included.

Even the sega dreamcast has a web browser (that supported flash)

This is a long way away from the restricted conectivity that makes the xbox so secure and safe for children. I am not saying they aren't going to do it, but this is a big departure for them.

I'm surprised by the number of people who have no idea that the Xbox 360 supported PC keyboards since day 1!

And mouse support? They could add that as easy as 1..2..3

Anyway, I never cared about a browser on consoles, and I still don't. I open 69+ tabs when I'm browsing the internet so I'm sure there's no way that's gonna work on a console with 512MB of RAM!

I find it surprising that MS has found that enough xbox360 users want to use the xbox to browse the internet. ...though there's no physical keyboard and acceptable pointing device for web browsing.

"Microsoft's Bing search engine that's already in place in the new Metro-like dashboard."

what do you mean metro like ??? the xbox live dash board got this look first , before it was even named metro in win 8. metro should be called crappy new xbox dashboard -like, and you know what it's a freaking eyesore. i miss the dash board of 2008-09. the fact metro looks like this ugly dash baord design is why i wil never switch to win8 ever. in fact i think MS needs fire the guys (or girls ) that designed the nasty looking thing. it's just terrible looks like a damn ad bill board in new york city , and not a pretty one even.

It may be more expensive in the long run, but it's an alternative. If you can afford one at full retail price, then by all means get one now (assuming you want one). You're not forced to go with the subsidized one.
