Hi!
I have the following setup:
Room 1: wifi router from the internet provider. It sends wifi signal to devices in room 1.
Room 2: a switch (100 mbps) that connects two computers with a RJ45 cable and a router Trendnet TEW-638APB for wifi ("small router" in the following). This room has a separate network name and password (not the same as room 1).
There is a long RJ45 cable from the router in room 1 to the router in room 2. After changing the internet provider, we received a new router in room 1. We connected the RJ45 from room 2 and everything worked. However, every morning when I go to room 2, there is no internet. Then I restart the switch OR restart the small router and everything works. It is annoying to do that frequently, and usually this happens once every day. I tried to update the firmware on the small router, I talked with trendnet and I talked with the internet provider. Noone can answer what the problem is. However, I can now see that if I remove the small router in room 2 from the switch, then everything works and there is no need to restart anything i the morning. So, I assume that there might be a compatibility issue. Our new internet connection is 100mbps via fiber, so maybe the small router doesn't like that.
Now I am considering buying a new small router and maybe also a new switch. I hope this will solve the problem. This time I want the same wifi name in both rooms (such that it does not have to switch from one to another network when we walk from room 1 to room 2). I do not understand much in routers. Will this one work:
Amazon
Room 2 is not large.
If I buy this router, do I need a switch? I can see that it has several slots for RJ45, so is it switch and router in one? In case I need a separate switch, will this work:
Amazon - switch
Thanks!
Alex
