"Internet has stopped working"

I just installed Windows 7 for the first time yesterday. However, I already seem to have a problem. Often I close a tab in Internet Explorer 8, I get the message "Internet has stopped working", and I have to click on "close" to finally close the tab. This is really annoying. Anyone knows how to fix this? Thanks a lot.

Did you perform a custom ("clean") installation or an upgrade installation? Also, have you ensured that all drivers are up to date and certified for Windows 7?

Have you installed all of the latest updates?
