Question Internet suddenly very slow on one of my computers

I'm old and lacking in technical skills (to say the least). Not sure what information I need to supply, but here goes.

I have multiple computers (one desktop and three laptops), and only one of them has slow Internet. We have Verizon FiOS. Laptop (LG Gram) has plenty of space and memory, and a fairly fast processor. I haven't changed or updated anything recently, The Internet response suddenly got REALLY slow a day or so ago.

When I access the Internet, it takes forever for the pages to display. Happens in Reddit, Facebook, newspapers I subscribe to, and every other random website I've accessed. I usually get notifications in the lower left corner that indicate that something is transferring from, waiting, reading, can't be found, whatever. The page will eventually come up, but it takes way too long.

The problem occurs in both Chrome and Firefox. Right now I'm only running Chrome and don't have anything else open except file explorer, so I've got lots of resources available. Internet still unbelievably slow. Driving me crazy.

I've tried restarting the laptop . Cleared browsing history and cache.

I don't know what else to try, since I have no knowledge in this area. Windows 10 version 21H2 (OS Build 19044.2130)

Laptop is connected with wi-fi.

Here's the kicker -- I had same EXACT problem about two months ago. Someone suggested a fix that worked, but I can't remember what the fix was or where I found the information. (Yes, I also have memory issues.) I'm usually very careful about writing up information about problem fixes, but I dropped the ball on this one.

Please let me know if I need to provide any other info.

Any suggestions would be massively appreciated. Thanks.

I recommend start look into the things that is most easy to check, for instance - how much space left on your storage do you have? A near full file storage may cause such problems.

Thanks for your response. I think I'm good for storage:

SSD capacity: 476 GB
used space: 229 GB
free space: 246 GB

What else should I check? (I'm clueless.)

On the laptop, verify that only the wireless network adapter is enabled. The wired network adapter should be disabled.

Try turning off IPv6.
As far as I can tell, wired network adapter is disabled. I don't think I've ever enabled it.

And I think IPv6 is disabled. I found where it was listed, but the column next to it was blank.

On the laptop, are you able to run "ipconfig /all" (without quotes) via the Command Prompt?

If so, run the command and post the results. You should be able to copy and paste the "ipconfig /all" results with no need to retype it all.

And, as another option, also run the "ipconfig /all" command on the other two laptops.

Compare the results between laptops: look for any differences between the slow laptop and the other two laptops.

Another thing you can do is to use Task Manager and Resource Monitor (use both tools but only one tool at a time) to compare performance between the three laptops.

You may, for example, discover some unexpected app or utility running in the background of the slow computer. Or some configuration difference.

No need to immediately react - any differences or questions can be further looked into as necessary.

I did also print out the ipconfig /all on my desktop computer. I see some differences, but I have no idea if they are significant.

Next I'll try to check Task Manager and Resource Monitor on my laptop and desktop.

Can I get your opinion about some crackpot ideas my husband thinks are the cause of my internet connectivity problem on my laptop? First he thought it was because I had too made tabs open. Right now I have 21 tabs, but when I closed all but 10 of them, it made no difference. He thinks that having had too many tabs open at one point caused something to go haywire even after I closed most of my tabs. I have next to no knowledge about this stuff, but that doesn't make sense to me.

He also thinks I have too many pinned bookmarks. I have 11, one of which is a folder containing 10 more. I've had these pinned bookmarks for at least a year.

At this point, my internet connectivity is practically at a standstill. It can take 15 minutes or more to connect to a site. Intermittently, the connectivity gets better, but it doesn't last.

I'm wondering if I should just find a local computer fixer who makes house calls.

What do you think?

Thanks.

Doubt that the tabs and bookmarks are the problem.

When all of those "not recognized" errors occurred were you trying to retype the "ipconfig /all" results at the Command Prompt?

Or did they just show up as a result of running "ipconfig /all"?

= = = =

"ipconfig /all" shows that your laptop is using a wireless network adapter and that the laptop is getting its DHCP IP address from a router at 192.168.1.1 and receiving a DHCP IP address of 192.168.1.3 - subnet 255.255.255.0. Quite normal.

IPv6 is enabled. You want to uncheck the box.

https://www.pcsuggest.com/disable-i...Windows_10_from_Network_and_Internet_settings

Use the "Network and Internet settings " Method. Not Powershell.

Failing that try the built in Windows troubleshooters:

[WIN] + > Update & Security > Troubleshoot > Additional troubleshooters > Network Adapter.
