That's complete non-sense.
CPUs have always drawn ridiculous amounts of power under overclocking and the only thing that has changed is what intel considers overclocking, these new CPUs can handle a lot of power without melting so intel increased the amount of power that they will still warrant. (warrantee? )

The 5960x (8c/16t) back in 2014 was drawing the same 320W for 4.4Ghz that the 12900k draws for (8c/16t) at 5ghz + ,plus whatever the e-cores do.

  1. that 5960x is using 322.4w-92.3w=230w.
  2. it is overclocked by 900mhz or 4.4/3.5-1=25.7%
  3. It is HEDT like Threadripper
  4. 12900k uses 320w only when people are first benching it, then it uses less watts per frame than comparable Ryzen (not including X3D): Intel Core i9-12900K(F), Core i7-12700K and Core i5-12600K in the test - Gaming in very fast and really economical | Part 1 | Page 9 | igor ́sLAB (igorslab.de) and it consumes less power than Ryzen idling and doing typical workloads because it doesn't have the I/O die power overhead.
Does your Ryzen use 320w gaming?

Try to get more of the story next time before coming to a conclusion.
