Anyone else keep insects, arachnids, or other odd pets? This is Frank, a Northern Walking Stick (Diapheromera fermorata).

Wouldn't call him a pet (more like creepy roommate) but there's a fairly large daddy long-legs that chills in my bathroom and eats the pest to earn his stay. I call him Afib as he's nearly given me a few heart attacks.

I've kept him around to get over my fear of spiders and I will say it did help.

Yeah, I have a little female Steatoda bipunctata cobweb spider living three feet from my feet. I feed her and give her water, so she counts as a pet. I've had two males as well, but they left their webs to look for females. Nice roommates, these spoods. 😃

How do you give a spider water? Put out a very very shallow dish with water on it? Maybe a few drops?

I carefully spray a little fine mist of water on and near the web, never directly on the spider. The spider then comes to drink from the small droplets.

With spiders that don't build webs I either spray a little water on a wall of the enclosure, or just put a drop or two near the spider.

If you have big spiders like adult tarantulas there are shallow dishes you can buy. :)

Found this video of a drinking jumping spider:

This guy sometimes let his jumping spiders drink from a syringe:
