Okay, so by now I'm aware of IObit's reputation for malware but like a week ago I didn't know that yet. I used Driver Booster 2 to update some drivers. After that, I uninstalled Driver Booster and I scan daily with HitmanPro and Malwarebytes. It doesn't look like something fishy was installed. Do I have to uninstall said drivers? Because I don't exactly remember which ones were updated 🙁

Thanks in advance

Solution
Use system restore and revert back to when you didn't have those drivers.

Download this http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/installed_drivers_list.html

You can sort it based on which company the software and time it was installed from, like in here:

What do I do next? I can isolate which ones I updated but they're like kernel and
controller drivers. How do I revert these? The file product names seem legit though.

Open up device manager and look for those names. Uninstall them based on the "file product name" that you found in that other program.

Create a restore point first, just in case you end up having problems later, you can revert back to fix them.

Okay so I figured out the device manager process, but even after uninstalling the devices they show up in the InstalledDriversList software (with the original date). I can't just delete them in the system32 folder can I? 😉

Yep, you can do that too.

Oh, and if you want to even remove them from the registry. In that driver program, if you right click on a driver entry it allows you to open it with regedit (although I don't recommend this, you can still delete the values associated with it)

Okay so I had to revert my uninstalls through system restore because I lost functionality to some vital parts of my computer (internet + usb). I couldn't redownload the correct drivers. Is there any chance Driver Booster didn't fuck up and I can keep the drivers installed? One of these days I'll be getting the new pc I ordered anyway (planned purchase, not because of this problem). The Driver Booster drivers didn't give me any problems but I got really paranoid after accidentaly reading about IObit...
One final question though: if i choose to keep everything as is, can faulty drivers or malware "contaminate" my external hard drives? They're the only thing I'll be needing on my new system, but there are only media files on them and I scanned them extensively already...

You can have the most relief by running a full virus scan in safe mode with networking using a antivirus like avg or malware bytes.

I wouldn't worry about it if the scans don't pick up anything in safe mode with networking, you should be fine.

Edit: if you ever lose drivers that came with your system, you can do a google search for (your PC model name drivers) and enter the official site only to find them for download.

There are no guarantees here unfortunately when it comes to viruses and security.

However if this helps, one of my family members had a PC where a rootkit virus was installed onto it. It did not affect their external drive during the time they had the virus (3-4 months). I cleaned out the virus in safe mode and its been 2 years since and there are no complaints about problems with their external drive.

If anything I highly doubt drive booster can ever touch your external drive if you uninstalled the program itself.
