This should give a taste of reality to the ones that were trolling here about Android's "fragmentation".
Any device operates best with a certain OS/apps, trying to make it work beyond it's specs just to show off your "unity" is a move best left to the ones that like to live on the fringe of their system specs.
The iOS users are notoriously NOT belonging to that category (except for the ones that jailbroke their phones, and these people really need to get something more user-friendly).

Apple, they make me laugh, so glad i have an S3 with Cyanogen Mod 10.1
3 Days battery life with alot of use. Suck on that Isheep

Apple is getting more stick than they deserve on this one, they've not added problems with 6.1.1 as the issues described have been present some from 6.1 and some from 6.0, they've started to take the steps towards rectifying these issues, they've started with the most critical issue, the lack of 3G performance, then this lockscreen issue has been made apparent so that'll be handled next, then it would be the rectifying of the battery life, it's walking the line between performance and battery and keeping all code at a 100% optimized level. Tom's Hardware has really stretched the truth on this news header, it hasn't added ANY problems, it's started to resolve existing issues from previous updates.

Disappointed in Tom's Hardware.

I don't like Apple products (I had the iPhone 4 32GB, and now own Galaxy S and LG Optimus LTE), but Tim Cook is not good for Apple. He needs to go. This isn't like Obama taking over for Bush, this is Cook taking the helm at Apple when it was at its strongest, and since the departure of Steve Jobs, it's been all downhill.

The iPhone 5 should of been called the 4SS, because it's basically the same phone on the outside except it's taller. The iPhone is now the CoD engine (Call of Duty) of the smartphone world. All they seem to be doing now is changing it just enough to call it new.

[citation][nom]sundragon[/nom]How about Bluetooth and flickering screen that made my Nexus 7 with 4.2.1 useless... and it took Google 3 months to fix? Oh wait, Google can do no wrong? They write perfect code? Just realized I'm trying to convince prepubescent morons...Sent from my Nexus 7[/citation]

If you want t make a point, I suggest trying to do it with less insult.

Yes, Google has issues too. However, there is one key problem here: Apple previously said that this update would fix these issues. Instead of fixing issues that the previous update caused, this update exacerbated them. IDK if Google has done that and if so, then shame on them too, but this is a pretty big screw-up for Apple nonetheless.

[citation][nom]andreizaha[/nom]I dont know about others, but I get about 20-30% more juice out of my battery with iOS 6.1 and 6.1.1, so I dont know about others...[/citation]

I also didn't have any issues with Android 4.2.1 on my Nexus 7, yet sundragon did. Just because you didn't have issues with the update doesn't mean that no one else has them.

Wife has the iphone 4s and we both have the ipad 3. i have a galaxy s3 and have learned to never upgrade anything until at least a week after others have "experimented" first. I then double and triple check the pros and cons and let the others be the guinnea pigs. Thats what u should learn from this article. I was a jerk to upgrade to ios 6.0 at first (with no viable youtube app for ipad). Should have waited, But that is where i learned that there are always bugs with ios and yes, android too.... Just wait till public official release and give it a week and wait for complaints before being the jerk who complains. "if it aint broken, dont fix it"!

Correction: I think you meant Issues on iPhone 3GS (!), not 3G - iOS6.x isn't available for iPhone 3G, only 3GS and better.

I had the same problem after updating my 4S to 6.1. battery would only last 2 - 3 hours and got very warm even without use.

Steps:
1) Disable Exchange Calendar (if you are connected to exchange server)
2) Update to 6.1.1
3) Perform full sync
4) reboot again
5) re-enable exchange

battery seems back to normal for me.

I need to point out that there is a couple of errors in your article

Exchange problem is not 4S related but iOS6.1 (and 6.1.1) related for ALL devices INCLUDING iPads

when you respond to a modified single instance of a recursive calendar meeting you fall in a loop with the exchange server resending the respond over and over.

That creates your Battery draining problem because of the constant communication with the exchange server

Now guess again what drain the battery life... yep that damn loop with Exchange

Another thing

I would like to point out to Preecher that you could only have disabled the calendar sync in your iPhone option for 10sec and reenable it and it would have done the trick

heh my battery was crap before 6.1 i don't notice any difference with 6.1 and mine is jailbroke, lasts an entire day and that's all i need. Your battery is just old and dying, go take it to the apple store for 80$ get a new one and bam, back to 2 days without charge. Batteries die, stop blaming apple haha.

While I agree that some users could be experiencing problems due to the age of their batteries, having a user replaceable battery would cost closer to $30 and you wouldn't have to take your phone to an Apple store. I can still blame Apple for the lack of a user replaceable battery.

Did you consider the possibility of your iPhone being jailbroken being why the recent iOS update didn't kill your battery time? Besides, like I said earlier, just because you're not affected by it does not mean that a huge number of other people aren't affected by it either nor does it mean that it is not a software issue. Software issues like this rarely affect everyone and an excellent example of that concept is looking at driver issues and firmware issues. They pretty much never affect everyone, sometimes for seemingly no reason.

Sundragon, seems that the update fixed your problem. Glad to hear.

But while I agree with your opinions regarding both companies, I think Android users are jumping on Apple users because it was always being touted how iOS was better because it just worked and also about how the carriers weren't updating their Android phones. Now that Google has gotten Android to a point where Android has met or exceeded iOS, the shoe is on the other foot now, and Android users are getting back at Apple users, or a tit-for-tat.

As for the clamor, it'll die down eventually. I believe that where Apple used to set the goal post for what could be achieved, Android is now setting the goal post that Apple has to strive for. Competition is always healthy for the consumers, and not allowing either competition any slack demonstrates that the consumers deserve the best.

Less insults? Can you please tell the Android Fanboys to do the same? Medicine tastes better when everyone's taking it...

You're absolutely correct about that. The problem is that attempting to educate people, especially such people as these, regardless of their word choice, tends to not work at all if we don't try to be civil whether or not they seem to deserve that much.

I appreciate your commentary as it's all a little ridiculous as people act like this is their favorite football team.

Many of us use both platforms. I never thought iOS was perfect, I beta test OS X, and honestly nothing as complex as an OS is ever totally bug free.

As IT people we all know better, though the whole "Apple thinks it's Perfect" it's the mantra of Android fanboys - with the mentality of if I say it enough times it must be true. What makes this all hypocritical is the mentality one can insult Apple for something that Google has done as well but but Google can do no evil. I've had a tablet for 4 months which required me to buy apps to fix the buggy OS (screen flicker) and forget using it for bluetooth. 4 months for an update is absurd regardless of which manufacturer drags their feet.

Well said

People need to stop making up reasons to hate apple. It's more annoying than apple itself. My iPhone had a shitty battery due to age before 6.1. Since 6.1 nothing has changed, even seems to run better. The battery even got hotter before 6.1, now it's not. Also it's called multi tasking / charging, phones getting hot happens. I stream music on my phone 40 mins to and from work every day while facebooking and the phone lasts 2 days. That's on a mediocre battery. Welp i'm done with this conversation because i don't troll like half the people who bitch about apple. Good day to you
