iPad Screen broken. What could be the problem?

Today I took my iPad into school, I was there for a couple hours and had my bag in sight the whole time. Something to note is that the screen in the area that's damaged still recognizes touch.

Any ideas what the problem might be, and whether it's fixable myself? If not how much do you think it's going to cost me?
Thanks :)

Hello,

Looks like the lcd screen underneath the digitiser has been damaged, possibly in your bad there was some kind of pressure exerted in that area.

With YouTube anything is possible. Just search iPad screen replacement and if it seems like something you can do yourself do it, but first take it into the store in case they can do something for you. But it is most likely a damaged lcd screen. The reason the touch response still works in that area is because the digitiser which is the layer over the lcd screen is what registers input from your finger.

Hi, I just ran down to a repair store and the guy said it was that the LCD is broken, and it's going to cost £81 for him to fix. I've just looked online and would like to know, is this the replacement I would need?

If so, I might consider doing it myself

Yes that is what you need. If I was you, I would spend a few extra pounds and get one that comes with the tools to replace it as it requires precision tools. Also there's ones on eBay that include the tools, led panel and the digitiser for around £35, might as well replace it all fresh whilst your doing it, but definitely get one that comes with the toolkit. It's not a hard job to replace the screen, just very fiddly as the screws are tiny.

Ok I'll probably go at trying it myself. Thanks for your help! :)

No worries, just follow a good guide on YouTube and you'll be fine. And have somewhere to put your screws, if you lose one your screwed :) let us all know how you get on.
