[citation][nom]getochkn[/nom]The problem is, yes it may be faster but who is going to code to take advantage of it. If you're an app maker, are you going to make a iPhone 5 ONLY app and alienate your market or make an that app that runs from the 3 to the 5 and open your market to probably 10x the number the people. Same thing with more pixels, etc. Who cares, is anyone coding apps for only those screens. No.[/citation]
Budding app makers would prefer to focus on iOS development, due to rampant piracy on Android platform.

[citation][nom]robochump[/nom]Depending on the benchmarks the new A6 (Cortex A-15) chip will be double the speed but gotta check the bench mark tests. Even then Apple has been more accurate than most with their claims and I am sure the tests will prove it. Where are the iHaters? I need a good laugh![/citation]
There is absolutely no content in what you've just said.

To be fair, I've lost my fascination with smartphones. The novelty has completely worn off. As long as I can make a call, check my mail, surf (if in a crunch), access needed secured data (Splash ID), shoot with a good-enough camera for spur-of-the-minute snaps, view my photos, play a casual game-or-two, and listen to my tunes...my simple iSheep needs are met. ...I much prefer to spend time on the larger screen of a tablet, so the iPad suffices there...and when it doesn't the Macs do for all but graphically rich gaming. ...and I have a solution for that. So all these new phones, and their multiple cores are nothing more than evolutionary benchmarks. ...no matter how B2-Stealth-Bomber-beautiful (iPhone 5) they are or who makes it.

My name Nick, and I'm an iSheep. 😀

I'm just mess'n with ya...my name's not Nick, but I don't hate Apple, so, am an iSheep according to the apparent criteria. 😉

[citation][nom]bustapr[/nom]im not at all in favor of Apple(or any company) marketing their shit as "Twice as fast". its blatantly lying 99% of the time, and this time its quite obvious. false marketing could possibly get them sued.[/citation]Depends. Twice as fast as what? They were comparing it to their old A5 chip. Not that anyone really cares, but in terms of raw power it probably is twice as powerful. It's not false marketing or a blatant lie. Mobile development is very aggressive and rapid currently, similar to desktop computing in decades long past. Now, will you see that kind of performance leap in real-world applications? Rarely. Games always enjoy faster hardware though, I'm sure new Unreal Engine based titles will be able to take advantage of it.

You should investigate the new A6 chip more though before leaping to conclusions. I don't think Apple is special or magical, and I won't buy an iPhone5, but the processor is just a chip. Let's forget all the stuff wrapped around the chip for a moment. This particular chip employs A15 cores that are also considerably higher-clocked than their older A5 (with its outdated A9 cores), which works out to about twice the raw performance. The GPU side I'm pretty sure went from an SGX543MP2 to an SGX543MP4, doubling the cores which means double the performance at the same clocks. But I suppose it is possible they went another route, like using Series 6 (unlikely this soon) or keeping the MP2 but doubling the clocks. Either way, their claims are not far-fetched, given how outdated the previous chip was, and how long Apple takes between major releases.

The rest of the phone didn't impress me much, although I'd like to see some more display tests among various phones.

IDC what some people say, not hating Apple does not make one an iSheep. Being an ignorant fanboy who is at the beck and call of Apple's whims or something like that is what makes someone an iSheep and you never seemed to be that sort of person, at least not from the posts of yours that I've read.

"Equity Research said that the A6 chip in the recently unveiled is a Cortex-A15 design manufactured in a32 nm HKMG process by Samsung"

This says it all.

That it is said a few days or so after Apple supposedly says that they are abandoning Samsung as a customer just makes it all the more interesting that Samsung is the manufacturer of the CPU, but I'm fairly sure that Apple did design it or at least that Samsung didn't.

the company describes the processor as "blazing fast" and "designed […] to maximize performance and power efficiency to support all the incredible new features in iPhone 5
Typical Apple " it's magical" statement. 😀

[citation][nom]aznshinobi[/nom]I love how Apple makes it sound as though they designed the chip when really Samsung was the creator the great chip. They just were in charge of renaming it.[/citation]
Apple did design the chip. And they used Samsung to bring those blueprints to production. There was nothing false in that claim at all. Its like me having an awesome t-shirt design in my head, if I bring it to a t-shirt printshop it is still mine. You can't produce something you don't have an idea about.

I'm just clowning to add levity. It often seems that folks take their positions, and themselves, much too seriously. ...and there seems to be a lot of intolerance I see from many of the posts in the forums here. On topic though, the iP5 appears to be a really nice piece of kit for those that like the simplicity of iOS. I admit, I do want to see one to see if it seems much better in use than the 4s. I just really wish the new Moto Razr/Maxx was available on AT&T...now to have that choice would be sweet.

The only thing Apple got right with Iphone 5 is the fast release to retail just 1 week after announcement,Hats off to them for that. I hate when a company ANY company announces a new product and we don't see it for several weeks or months.
I still have an Iphone 3GS and this iphone 5 doesn't really cut it for me, Looks like it is playing catch up with rest out there but I am sure it will still be a success.
Next phone for me is Galaxy Note 2 for sure,Sorry Apple maybe iphone 6 or 7 you will get me back when you have some innovation in next phone.

[citation][nom]teh_chem[/nom]Fast is entirely arbitrary and relative. What will one do with all of the "Fastness" of the phone? Run benchmarks all day?[/citation]

Thank you!! that's what I keep saying. I have heard so many comments like "oh no quad core..... who cares" what the hell do you need a quad core on a phone for? Playing angry birds? Do you do some sort of 3D CAD work on your phone? People need to get real. I own a galaxy note, and I have seen that the apple coding is more efficient. If android would clean up it's coding it would have a much better implementation of it's phones power

Apple is no different than Nvidia or any other fabless chip manufacturer. They design their own processors and have a foundry (like Samsung) make them. Samsung has nothing to do with the design. I know this is a hard pill to swallow for the Apple haters, but it's the truth.

Apple themselves referenced app start-upp speeds when talking about "twice as fast" ( and even those were less than twice as fast ), and that's got more to do with all types of memory and their busses than cpu / gpu speed. That said, while iPhone 5 didn't bring anything new to the table, it's still a very solid device, especially for those in favor of aluminum and glass.

They've fallin behind. Old design. Medoicre processor. Ram. Still using LCD. Resolution is meh. Too long. Lacking many of the new features of the latest smartphones. I'm sure Apple will still make a killing selling it to fanboys though, specs don't matter to them.. its all about marketing.

You don't know anything about the CPU except that it's a dual-core version of ARM's current best architecture, Coretex A15, you don't know the RAM specs, the display is a Retina display which although probably not the greatest, is still pretty good, the design is obviously being updated to be longer (you even mentioned this), and you don't know all of it's feature support. Pretty much everything that you said is pure speculation or irrelevant. I am damn sure that I won't buy it just as I won't buy any other Apple phones nor computers, but that doesn't mean that I'll ignore biased and speculative posts such as that.

If you don't harbor disdain for iOS then the iP5 may be appealing, I know the glass and alumiinum isn't quite as good and high quality as Samsung's and HTC's plastic but its not that bad either, especially since I'd put in a case immediately. Us iSheeple have very low smartphone standards so the iP5 is right up our alley with its longer screen, slightly upgraded camera, and stuff. ...and knowing some pretty little Asian lady may have helped assemble the iP5 is just icing on the cake. You know what, I think I may have go to see one in person soon...just to touch the logo.

The Lumia 920 showed more innovation than the iphone 5. Not too sure about the A15 chip...but from experience, hardware specs can be misleading. But making claims about hardware performance without releasing specs can even more misleading. Anyway, iP5 was not really impressive. All the design changes doesn't seem very impactful. Sure it's thin and light....but how is that going to offer a continually increased user experience. The Lumia 920 with NFC and wireless charging provides a ton of possible user experiences just with those two features. (I really want that JBL speaker they showed!) But Apple hasn't really created that possibility with the iP5...the new experience is very much the same as the old, but now you have to buy all new periferals.(or Perry Ferrals)

[citation][nom]ALEXMX[/nom]IOS is the Win XP of the OSes, no significative changes since the beginning... just like the lada russian cars lol[/citation]

Service pack 2 for Windows XP changed the core OS more than the transition from Windows 2000 to Windows XP.

We don't even know if this CPU is a Cortex A15.
