[citation][nom]Thomas Creel[/nom]Would prefer if they iPhone 6 came out first, then when the iPhne 5s came out no one would buy it. The iphone 5 is so useless, same thing as the 4 version.[/citation]

Version 4 was a huge step from the 3GS. No subsequent launch as had such a leap.
From the software and hardware side there were major changes in the 4.

From building materials, going to retina display (huge leap in screen resolution, PPI), faster graphics, processing from the 3GS. The adding of the front camera for FaceTime. The improved back camera with a LED FLash.

You clearly do not know what you're talking about.

From the iOS 4 standpoint there was major changes. To note, all iOS devices except the 1st gen iPhone and iPod touch could be move to iOS 4, which is something Android has a really bad track record in doing. Having devices support major upgrades without voiding warranty and requiring a workaround.

[citation][nom]baconeater[/nom]I own a Samsung galaxy S3. Is that cheap also? cause it's not even aluminum, it's plastic and very light. It scratches like a knife on warm butter. And the back plate is as flimsy as a gum wrapper. All phones are getting thinner and lighter? now it's ap problem ?[/citation]

Yes, the Samsung Galaxy S3, feels cheap as well. I've played with it. It feels cheaper than the iphone 5s. But Samsung has never tried top present itself as "mercedes" of phones. Thin doesn't need to feel cheap, also, light isn't always a good thing ... some form of heft gives it a feel a build quality imagine a mercedes being made to feel ultra-light do you think it would still have the same appeal.

This makes perfect sense. If Apple wants to try to remain competitive, it has to do this. I don't care who it is (especially since Apple has recently been reminded that it can't defy the laws of physics), NO ONE can compete in the smartphone and tablet markets by launching one device per year. It can't work. Apple needs to speed up their refreshes, and also get a larger-screen version of the iPhone out there if it wants to remain relevant.

Another step in Apple's return to a small-time niche player, just like they used to be (only this time they won't be on the verge of bankruptcy).

Unfortunately, Zak doesn't provide a source link for this story, merely speaking for the Commercial Times instead of citing their article so we can verify the validity of this story.

Frankly, I'm inclined to suspect the truth to this story. If there is any refresh going on right now, it's to replace the parts of low reliability with the parts of high reliability, and that should be it. Cook won't make the mistake of a refresh shorter than the iPad now that he sees that feedback.

Update: the source link title is: "Apple to trial production of iPhone 5S soon".

Also: "the speculated iPhone 5S is expected to enter volume production in the first quarter of 2013"

The language of the article (Source Commercial Times article not provided, either) is not only careful to suggest that this is all speculative, but the volume cited is so low it couldn't possibly be a production run, more likely a trial run to fully test out the factory processes and quality, not to mention how pissy the workers are likely to be.

This may not even be the 5S, this could simply be a revised build of the 5 to eliminate some of the components that are having a higher defect rate.

Frankly, Toms is jumping the gun one-further by treating the name as established, rather than entirely unsettled and speculative.

Zak... you're really doing a disservice to your readership by being creative with your interpretation of these articles.

there should be an article about apple possible having iphone 6 in 2014 .... that should keep us going! 6s in early 2015 and in 2016 i believe we`ll have iphone 7 , can`t wait for that! better go sit in line by now for it.

The iPhone 5 really really left me unimpressed. The build quality/materials are not as good/durable as the previous versions. Its faster and has a longer screen but is more fragile (unnecessarily) and will show wear just from looking too hard at it. Unimpressed I am. I got my wife one and I HAD to pay for a full-body Zagg Invisible Shield to keep it looking new. The SGS3's plastic will wear better than the soft alumiinum of the iP5 and probably costs less to implement.
