How do you change IRQs in Windows 2000?
Everything is on IRQ11. Windows states that there are no conflicts, but I have been running into some strange problems. I can’t say that I really understand IRQs but it doesn’t seem right to share them this way.
The following are all on 11:

APG video
Promise ATA100 controller
SIIG Ultra SCSI controller
Netgear 10/100 NIC
Sound Blaster live.

The storage controllers should defiantly not share an IRQ from my experience. I know the two IDE channels on the mainboard each get a separate IRQ, but the two channels on the Promise card share with the SCSI and everything else.

Anyone know where I can find information on IRQs in Win2k.
Everything’s so plug-in-play I don’t know what I can and cant touch.

This article from Microsoft describes IRQ's in Win2k:

You have to replace the "ACPI compliant computer" with "Standard PC" in device manager under "Computer" in order to specify your own IRQ's. But you will loose some functionnality doing this. Make sure you have all your drivers before replacing it, the system will try to reinstall some of your devices upon reboot. I suggest you to only do this if you have problems with your system, if it runs fine even when sharing IRQ I suggest you to keep it that way.

Hope that helps!

Thanks, I’m going to give it a try.
I am having a lot of problems with the system. I’m not sure what the problem is, but I need to rule things out. The system has two power supplies, 7 IDE devices, and some SCIS devices as well. I’m also using some cheap, old RAM.

The system reboots itself a lot and locks up often. I’ve replaced the CPU, MB, and power supplies. The RAM is next, but I want to make sure that the software is ok since I really don’t think it’s a RAM problem. (no blue screens or GPFs). I have already tried to reload the OS, but it’s still doing the same thing.

Please don´t deinstall the ACPI features. W2K is the most ACPI (PnP) compatible and featured Windows. Every single PCI (not ISA) device MUST in fact share the same IRQ, that´s not an issue! I have 6 PCI devices (2 USB ports, audio, VGA, TV and network adapters) and 10 pieces of hardware running flawless on the same IRQ.
The problems you adress are caused by unstable hardware or your overloaded system, W2K can´t help you much.

I had to do it, since my 3D games were locking up! Like I said, don't do it if your systems runs ok.
