Hi All,
I am currently running a Phenom II 965 cpu (4.1ghz stable) and an ATI 4890 / 4350 video card setup. I can game on triple monitors using these and SoftTH. I have a 1920 x 1080 monitor in the middle with a pair of 1680 x 1050's on the edges. I am looking to upgrade to an Eyefinity card because SoftTH only lets you game at Dx9 an I lose much of the eyecandy.
I have a couple of questions please:
1) From the specs I have seen, it looks like a 6850 would give me about a 25% performance boost over the 4890. Since the 4890 can already run even Crysis 2 at extreme settings without a hitch, 25% over that seems like plenty of card. It also seems to me that games are becoming better and better optimized and these crushingly powerful video cards will become less and less necessary as time goes by. Is my thinking correct here? Do I need more than the 6850? Not a hard core gamer, but want to have a good experience when I do play.
2) VRAM. It seems logical that added VRAM would be a benefit if gaming on 3 monitors. However, I do not know how eyefinity really works. Should I spend the extra for 2 GB VRAM for the triple monitors or can 1 GB handle things fine?
3) My 1920 x 1080 monitor has HDMI in. The others have just DVI in. Since the 6850 has 2 DVI ports and one HDMI port, it would seem I would be good to go without buying any extra display port toggles. Am I correct?
Like I said, I am not looking to build the supreme gaming rig of all time. Just one that works well with triple monitors at a reasonable price-point.
Great thanks to all who respond
