Hey there. I've got an optical fibre connection at my home with a 2 MB/s unlimited plan. Speed test dot net shows me that I'm getting download speeds ranging from 1MB/s to 2MB/s while uploading speeds b/w 200 to 250 KB/s. However, while downloading something, there are only a few cases when I get full 2MB/s download speeds.. Generally It's more like 200-230 KB/s. Surprisingly, it's full 2MB/s when im watching YouTube or downloading through ssyoutube site. Any idea what could be causing this?? Someone told me speed depends upon site to site, server to server. Well. If that's the case, then whatever connection I have is basically useless for me. Right??? Also I would like to know Is 230 KB/s considered fast???

2200kilobyts are 2 megabytes, in terms of megabits that is around 20 megabits

sound like a simple decent internet connection

if you are wired or over wifi should offer the same speed, especially when it is not being share with other devices in your home network
the speed limit is not imposed by your internet connection only

the other side can put a speed limit of 1 or less megabits

remember that a megabyte and a megabit are two different things

a megabit represents around 120 kilobytes for the user

most servers when downloading files form it will limit you to 1 or 2 megabits

other servers will not limit you at all, like youtube for example

so, what exactly is your speed, 2 megabits or 2 megabytes?

try with speedtest.net to get a somewhat acurate value of what you are getting

It's 2 Megabytes..
Even on wireless, I get 2 MB/s. That's what speed test dot net shows me. Well. It doesn't allow me to set the unit to Megabytes. So I set it to Kilobytes and what I get is 2200-2300 KB/s. I use one more app called cpu-x on my phone which tells me the real time data speed in the notification bar of my phone. It also shows me the same results. Down speed vary from 700/800 KB/s to nearly 2 MB/s

Thats very different to 230 kb!!! What do you pay for?
